Need a second set up for another lathe I'm adding to my shop, Just wondering if any one has a better source for buying maintenance drive sets. I have checked Porper's Q-Pins, Bassels custom cue lathe set,
Cue components, I need both male and female ends. Unique's set and bassels are nice but I don't like the idea of them being made out of what looks like aluminium. Any Idea's
 
As mentioned Prather makes a very nice set but they only list about 5 of the basic threads. I do not like the driver with male on one end and female on the other, I like the male and female to be two separate pieces.
 
I know what you mean JT. I find that you constantly have to adjust the quill on the tail stock. Pushing the maintenance pins inward.

Wondering if a person can get the collars with a set screw that have a large enuff inside diameter so that you could slip one over the maintenance pin to keep it from moving. Same type of collars that you use for a depth stop on drill bits. Only much bigger of course.

If they come that big, one could drill a little divot in the pin for the set screw to rest in so that the collar wouldn't be prone to move as well if you were to put a little pressure on it.
 
The tooling grade of Ali is harder than free machining stainless .
As for a stop, I prefer to cut a groove and then use an external cir-clip or snap ring when I can.
I prefer having more than one set of pins and inserts of what I am using.
I make my own because I can.For the insert ones( hole bored and tapped), I bore and tap with it in the lathe I am going to be using it in.
