Making a light. Ideas.

If you are building it from scratch seriously consider going with 6 foot bulbs.

8 footers are really too long. You can also use 3 footers crosswise. 2 bulb fixtures maybe 4 or 5 of them about 18" apart or so. Some of these lights guys build look horrible they are like as big as the pool table and you can hit your head on them. Plus they can't be really set at the best heigh because they are so big they get in the way.

Thanks Mac, I'm using (2) 2' x 4' drop-in fixtures, in the frame I made. Its going over a 10' Carom table. Just wondering what the best type defuser to use. Thanks.

I used the chrome plated plastic egg crate style diffusers on the light I built. They work great.

I disagree. Length of table lighting is best. My light is about 77" off the floor and even guys that are 6' plus don't hit it.

Stagger shorter builbs.
The long bulbs are way to expensive and they are energy suckers...
Use the 4 foot bulbs and arrange them shown, four bulbs will work but I used two extra in drawing to show a example of bulb arrangement....with a bigger size table you'll have to make your adjustments on the build and add the two more bulbs.
If you can't tell. the bulbs are colored in black.
And a light defuser'

To answer your question what you want is a parabolic diffuser. I think it would be a 64 cell diffuser but you should double check that. The cells are between 1/2"-3/4".

There was a thread, not too long ago, that mentioned that Diamond uses the best type of diffuser; the name had "parabolic" in it.
There appear to be numerous types of parabolic and I have no idea which is best (although I remember the thread said there were major differences...and that the right one ain't cheap).

I purchased mine at Home Depot.
No noticeable glare with the diffusers I got from Home Depot.
I totally agree 8fts bulbs is the way to go if you want to eliminate shadows on balls near the short rails
Here is the thread where I rebuilt my Diamond fullsize light. I put 24 4' T8 bulbs in the Diamond box, I used there small opening parabolic diffusers. I really like having plenty of light.
