hiya all,
after i had posted about a shot, i was thinking it might be usefull to have a post, where everyone could post typical poolshots. what i mean with this is:
shots that some call 'trick shots' i just call them poolshots as u dont use them alot in snooker. many snookerplayers are starting to play more and more pool. tony drage, ronnie O sulivan, jimmy white, steve daves, etc etc. ofcourse other type of 'trick shots' and i dont mean, set up balls and pot 5 balls , but just shots u have to shoot a certain way , or u wont be able to pot them
ill post some i know
shot1:: avoiding the double kiss bank shot.
how to: instead of simply banking the shot, wich will give u a double kiss (aka the cb bounces of the cussion and is blocked on his patch by the ob). if u use inside englisch, the cb's banking angle will be reduced. this way u have to make a tinner contact. the tinner contact will make the OB move away fast enough so the bank shot is available.
shot2:: The >90° cutshot.
how to: u aim with the cb to place A, without touching the OB ball. U put ALOT of inside englisch. (the more englisch the bigger the distance the 1 ball will travel). when the CB makes contact with the cussion, the englisch will push the 1ball towards the pocket.
atention:
A/ pay atention to not scratch the OB. this happens alot. the inside englisch will make the CB travel to the upper right pocket.
B/ dont play the shot to slow. if u play it to slow, or the distance between the cussion and OB is big, the inside englisch will swerve the ball. u have to take this into account when u shoot it. if u dont, the CB will touch the OB BEFORE it hits the cussion and u will miss it.
shot3:: The cussion jumpbankhot.
how to: u use alot of top spin and a strong stroke. when the CB touches the rail, the topspin and the rebound force of the cussion will JUMP the cb in the air after it rebounds. this way the OB can jump over the line of blocking balls.
atention: the topspin, will transform into backspin once the OB is in the air. meaning: that after the cb lands on the table it will have backspin and wont go alot further. u can use english on the topspin too if u want.
shot5:: The anti push shot.
how to: in this case its hard not to make a pushshot and foul. if u use the rest, ull surely make a foul by touching the cb 2 timew with your tip. how to shoot this shot, is to aim with your tip at the botom of the cb. at the botom your cue has to go deeper to touch it. u then elevate your tipe instead of stroking it. the elevated movement will move your tip away for when the CB is bounced back from the OB.
shot6:: The Colour of money shot.
how to: u slightly cut the OB ball towards to middle pocket. all other pockets are blocked so this is your only pocket free. u aim with the cb to touch the rail at place B. thanks to some inside englisch (i prefere to use abit of running then to plain centerball bank) the cb will kick itself towards the middle pocket. TIMING is the key here. when the cb arives to the middle pocket, the 4ball will be there too, and the CB will pocket it in the middle pocket.

ive seen in online game a different way of playing the #2 shot. they use the double kiss AND englisch so the OB bounced of the cussion, double kisses the CB, and then uses the transfered englisch to make the 90° cut. no idea if it can be done in real and how.
another one im thinking of , is efrens best shot EVER. where he banks 2 cussions. usually if u want to bank it 2 cussions, u have to use a strong stroke. but when u use a strong stroke , with me the cb does this:
the last bank angle is reduced from the cussion who transferes the running englisch into opposite englisch. the CB will travel to point A... in efren's shot the angles seem to stay equal and goes to point B (ok not exactly same shot but thats not the point). i then tought of using outside englisch instead, but then the 1st cussion will make it running english and the same smaller angle will happen again after it rebounds of the 2d cussion... how can i make a 2 cussion bank shot without shortening the angle?
id LOVE to have a post with LOADS of tipical poolshots so that new poolplayers (or ex snooker players ) like me could use this post to learn them. they ARE a part of a game, and can solve ALOT of problems if u know the shots. so plz help me and post some more.
i KNOW from experience i have won games just by knowing these shots. ive won racks i wouldnt have i didnt knew them.
