What would be the downside of removing facings to get an extra 1/4 inch...is there any other way????

If they remove the facing completely balls going into the pocket will be hitting the edge of the rail, in my opinion that is not an option.

I don't believe that the size of the pocket is the problem as much as the pocket opening is. I suggest having someone here on the forum redoing your rails. Unless you have had your table since new I am betting that some where along the line a mechanic screwed up your rails. Depending on your location either, Mark Gregory, or Donny Wessels are qualified and have many satisfied customers.
