Mallard Fillmore

Any one read the Mallard Fillmore Cartoon?

How Mainstream media view the World:
USA Today:
The US Women's Pro Soccer League folded because it had seen a steady decline in attendance and paltry TV ratings

but the overriding reason was a lack of big time corporate sponsorship.

How the average person views the World:

Gee - you think maybe no fans and bad ratings had something to do with that sponsorship problem?
________

Sound familiar? Seems the same thing is happening in Pool.

I wonder what kind of ratings SUN (BcTV) received when they televised the 2002 Open?

Jake, sponsorship problems seem to be a significant factor in men's pool, but the UPA seems to think all pool players must follow their way or the highway, like trained little pigs.

According to Pool and Billiards Magazine, Corey Duel, Troy Frank, and Frankie Hernandez have been stripped of those wonderful UPA ranking points because they refused to sign the UPA contracts.

Earl Strickland cannot play in any event affilliated with the UPA, and as any reader of this forum knows, there seem to be a multitude of reasons, with the big reason being a personality conflict.

This past weekend, I heard discussion at a local tournament that Keith McCready has been told by the UPA that he will not be allowed to attend the Amsterdam Billiards tournament in NYC this week because he is a "touring pro" and is not a member of the UPA. In other words, Keith must join the UPA or be banned from any of their events, like Earl, Corey, Troy, and Frankie.

Other pool players who the UPA defines as "non-touring pool player," at their own whim, I might add, may pay $25 and attend the Amsterdam Billiards tournament.

The pool industry is already hurting, and, thus, may go by the wayside like women's soccer, I guess. Thanks, UPA, for making it a lot worse.

This is just another series of atrocities from the UPAyours. Forcing McCready to become a touring pro is in direct opposition to their own rules. They say that "any individual" can join at the $25 level or pay $25 to play in any tournament. This is a violation of federal law and someone should take them to court and put an end to all this crap.

They have also started charging the promoter $1500 now. I thought they had dropped the $1000 fee but now it is higher. CW clearly lied when he told BD that it was easy for a promoter to get sanctioning. Not only do they have to come up with an extra $1500 that could have gone to the prize fund but they will risk having their tournament ruined.

You have got to be kidding me, Ken from CT.: UPA charges independent promoter $1,500?

Instead of reaching outside of a cash-poor industry, they are targeting promoters and pool players to bring in more revenue. How is this helping pool in general to go after the folks who are already cash-poor?

Again, the only persons affected by UPA atrocities are pool players and promoters, so nobody gives a damn:

that Keith McCready is barred from playing in NYC this week;

that Corey Duel, Troy Frank, and Frankie Hernandez have been stripped of their precious UPA ranking points;

that Earl Strickland, one of pool's most recognized players, is barred from playing in any event associated with UPA.

Soon, Ken from CT, the pool players that UPA bans, bars, and takes advantage of may be able to form a new organization for all of the UPA rejects. The list is mounting fast.

manlyshot,
The $1500 fee came as a surprise to me. I just went to their site to see about the NY event that Keith is being barred from. I found out that they have reinstituted the fee to the promoters and raised it by $500:

What they are doing is a violation of their own rules as well as the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations act (RICO). Earl and Keith should sue them and put them out of business. I'll be glad to prepare the briefs for them.
