Marco Fu made history after he knocked out current number two ranked player Ken Doherty to become the first Chinese player ever entering the semi finals in the World Snooker Championship.

Marcu Fu was behind 9:10 when he won 4 frames in a roll to knock out the 1997 World Snooker Champion, Ken Doherty.

Marco's performance has not been very good before the championship. He has been training under Terry Griffiths hoping to perfect his cueing action. His efforts is finally paying off as he also supressed Ronnie O'Sullivan's record by running six centuries in this Championship.

Marco Fu will face Peter Ebdon tonight (27, April). Peter Ebdon just eliminated defending World Champion, Shaun Murphy.

If Marco Fu wins the championship, his ranking will rise back to 14. He will also become the first Chinese World Snooker Champion.

I would like to wish Marco the very best.:)

Well said Richard, I hope Marco reaches the final as I think Snooker currently needs Asia in order to climb out of its current slump.

A high quality year so far though, I beleive there where 5 ex world champions in the Quarter finals, Murphy, Doherty,Ronnie,Ebdon, and Williams. However I think that its setup for a Ronnie v Ebdon grudge matche final. I repeat of last years match when Ebdon played extreemly slowly and for want of a better term "did ronnies head in"!

If memory serves me right, Marco Fu beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in 2003, before losing to Steve Lee, in the World Championship.

"Did Ronnies head in"? I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.;) ;)

Yes, Ronnie lost that match after scoring a 147.

Eurosport commentator said that Ronnie spent a lot of time before the WSC practising with Ebdon @ his academy. I hoped for a spicy rematch...:(
 
Just received some news about Marco's match with Peter.

Their match lasted over 5 hours and the first session finished with a tied. None of the two had any break over 60 points except a 81 by Marcu Fu.

BBC received an email from two viewers from Belgium who basically said they opened a bottle of wine when they started watching the Marco vs Peter match. They said when they decided to email BBC, four hours had gone by and they were on their third bottle of wine when the 7th frame was played.

A member of the audience yelled out, "hurry up and shot, watching you is worst than watching paint dries..." Although the referee (John Oomyn) tried very hard to control the situation, a lot of audience left the arena, or acted very annonyed.

The last frame lasted 46 minutes, and both of them were missing lots of shots. The longest frame lasted 52 minutes while the fastest frame lasted 15 minutes. Both players took up to 3 minutes to think before they shot.

In response to the complain, Clive Everton felt that players do not owe the obligation to play at a faster pace; while John Virgo felt that the players should be reminded they were playing to entertain.

Peter Ebdon is known to play at a slow pace. He had an unpleasant incident last year in the World Championship with Ronnie O'Sullivan because of that.

Although Peter is originally from the UK, he is now residing in Dubai.

Marcu Fu is from Hong Kong but spend most of his time in the UK. He is now taking lesson from Terry Griffiths, who is also known to take his time when he plays. Besides, being the first Chinese player playing in the semi finals of the World Championship, he must be feeling quite a lot of pressure.

Some people said in a news report that they believe both of these players process a combination of the Eastern and Western culture and that is perhaps why they had mastered the virtue of patience.

can't believe Mark J lost to ronnie, i'm gutted. was a bit unlucky - played great but trademark williams - lost his concentration on a couple of easy balls. oh well, ronnie played well anyway, hopefully he meets ebdon in the final. should be a cracker!
 
Well, after the second session was over, Marco was down two frames. The second session was full of excitment and both players obviously played much better.

Peter Ebdon ran a 68 in the first frame, followed by a 107 to lead the score 6:4. Marco Fu then won the next frame just to watch Peter Ebdon played brilliant snooker to win the next three frames in a row.

In the last game of the session, Peter Ebdon knocked in another 67 but Marco Fu replied with a 70 clearance to stay only two frames behind.

fu has looked shaky the whole match though tbh, if he wants to win this match and indeed the whole thing he needs to pick himself up. in his defence however, ebdon has been playing flawlessly, and to not be playing your best and your opponent playing well, yet still be only 9-7 behind is a bonus.
 
I hope Fu can make the comeback so that we can perhaps see Ronnie and Fu in the finals, I think it would make for great TV (not that I get to watch it:o ) and would be great for snooker.
 
Just when all hopes seemed to have disappeared for Marco when Peter leaving the third seesion with a commanding lead of 15:9, Marco has displayed the form which has taken him to the final four in the World Championship.

While Peter needing only two more frames to win after the third session, the Chinese player kicked his game up another notch winning the last four frames in a row with breaks of 86, 100 and 52. Marco is now only two frames behind at 15:13.

In the Graeme vs Ronnie match, Graeme now only needs one more frame to win with a commanding lead of 16:8. Ronnie is already onto his 21 tips, and he looks to be in trouble concentrating.

The drama and suspense continues...

Marco Fu has managed to win yet another frame with a break of 75 to stay within one frame of Peter Ebdon at a score of 15:14.

In a race to 17(best of 33 as they call it in the UK), Marco came into the third day session with a seemingly hopeless 15:9 score. Peter Ebdon only needed two more frames to enter into the finals and he was in great form.

However, Marco Fu has somehow rediscovered the top game in him before it is too late in today's one sided display of top quality performance.
 
After winning the last frame 98:0 with a break of 75, Marco Fu continued to punish Peter Ebdon with yet another break of 103 to win the 30th frame 103:1.

The score is now tied at 15:15 with Marco Fu looking to be in his best form ever. Peter Ebdon has made a total of 11 points in the last four frames.

Marco Fu has displayed very impressive mental toughness to win 6 games straight coming into today's session when almost everyone has pretty much counted him out. Most audience expected Peter to win two more frames and finish Marco off. Most attention was drawn on whom Peter Ebdon would have to play in the finals.

Marco Fu will become the first ever Chinese snooker player ever made it to the finals in Crucible, if he wins this match.

I believe someone told me the wagering company in the UK has accepted a bet that before 2010 a Chinese player would win the World Snooker Championship. When Ding came along, he was expected to have the highest chance of winning it. I have forgotten the amount but it was something like US 20,000. It was a Chinese fellow from China who placed the bet about ten years ago.

This is better than any drama.

Peter Ebdon just won the last frame 73:0 and is now leading 16:15. He only needs one game to win this match.
 
According to "the One", Marcu ran a 51 and got a kick and missed a black, Peter came to the table and started to clean up but messed up on his position.

I would love to see a tie for a sudden death, it would be a shame to see Marco coming back all the way just to lose the game because of a kick.

Yes, Marco made it. I am so happy to report that the score is now tied at 16 a piece. Very high quality of snooker, I am not only referring to the technical aspects but also the mental side of the game, it is inspiring to see Marco displaying so much "heart' in his game.

If Marco can stay calm and just play to the top of his performance like he has been doing in this session, he should be able to close the deal.
