I just looked at the new BCA website, very nice adn it looks like they are going in a good direction. I very much like the new grand masters division and new ranking level.
Problem though. What about a pro list? I am thinking if the BCA really wants to make a serious change in the world of pool this is a great chance for them to deal with all the player levels, not just the amateur players. Why not have one final level of full out pro players and include them in a big tourney much like the other players when it comes to singles? It seems a little wrong to skip that one last step of the truely top players. Allow people to reach the top and not default themselves right out of the tournament.
Plus, I am sure there is a pro list or is going to be one. Looking through the masters and grand masters list I have to wonder about afew of the people on the list and afew that are absent (and must be assumed as on the pro list). Scott Tollefson, Scott Frost, Dave Hemmah, Jesse Bowman, these are some players that are seriously questionable as grand master status when you look at some of the people absent (and therefore on the pro list). Where is the pro list? Should this not be looked at? I imagine it would take 2 or 3 very knowledgeable people about 2 or 3 8 hour days to fix these lists and be alot more proper when it coems to ranking the players in their respective areas? I am not trying to burn any players and get them bumped up, but how many masters and Canadian championships does a player have to win before he gets to grand master status? There are some serious oddities in that list.
We almost need to start it from scratch, include a pro level ranking and tournament. As it stands now the whole thing is screwed, it is beyond salvaging the system in its current form. Someone needs to be hired and go through the whole list with a fine tooth comb and rank these players right and make sure that the result is current to the playing ability of the players on the list.
