I was reading the forum the other night and ran across a couple of threads that had referenced Mark Tadd. I have only seen him play twice and I don't remember him missing a ball. Anybody out there got a Mark Tadd story they would like to share?
OK, OK, so here's my Mark Tadd story:
I was warming up at the DCC last year when this guy comes over with his copy of one of Eddie Robin's 1pocket books in hand. I should know who this guy is, but I don't -- he's a tall older guy who's at all the 1pocket events and you can always see him in the background in all the Accu-Stats tapes, wearing a white Panama. Anywhos, he comes up to me and asks me to autograph the book.
So there I am, pen in hand, staring at this page with all these world beater signatures on it. Now, I've only been asked to sign *one* of these books ever before and that was at like the '99 US Open 1pocket event up in Kalamazoo when, Ed, the tournament director, asked all the players to sign his copy.
So I'm looking at "Autograph for an Adoring Fan #2" and I had to hesitate for a moment. Finally, the better part of me speaks up and I ask, "Are you sure you want *me* to autograph your book?"
And he says, "Well sure. You're Mark Tadd, aren't you."
I laughed and told him though I had no idea what Mark Tadd looked like, I had heard enough about him that I finally understood why, if I looked anything like him, I could never get a game while growing up on the West Coast back in the 70's
