Was maybe the most talented pool player I ever saw..except for maybe Jack Hines, but that's another story..I've heard a hundred different stories as 2 why he gave up pool for 10 years(religious reasons primarily)..but I don't think anyone knows for sure except Mark(and his stakehorse LMAO)

Anyway I understand he made a comeback last year..has anyone seen him recently?.. and if so,how is he hittin'em? and is he gambling again?

Any Mark Tadd info AZ?

There are a few dvds of him in action out there. In one he plays parica a race in bank pool and comes from behind to win a short race, $$$$ set.

I think the most impressive show of talent I have ever witnessed in person is Efren in one pocket (2005-2007), followed by a young (13/14?) yr old Tony Watson circa 1992. Gary Spaeth had me with a jaw on the floor watching him play bank pool (mid 80s) as well.

yeah Tony Watson was called "shrimpboat" back then..and he was a phenom! Don't forget young Dennis Hatch and Shannon Dalton..

Tadd

I Was Watching Him Warm Up Back When In York,pa At A Tourny. He Was Just Shooting Balls In For A Couple Of Hours, No Misses !!!. I Had To Ask Him Why He Was Doing This And Not Missing Anything. His Response Was He Was Trying To Catch A Stroke.

Mark himself said that all of those years of gambling at pool left a bad taste in his mouth. I can understand why. I've seen people go nuts for losing $20 playing pool. Imagine if you beat people for thousands, and all the arguments and fights that come with it. It's definately not a lifestyle where you would be all smiles.

Mark became real good at poker and made a living off of it. He is one of those people that whatever he wants to be good at, he becomes super-good at whatever it is. When Mark was in his prime, and when he was crushing people left and right at a tournament back in the early 90's, someone asked Efren if they knew how good Mark really played. Efren's exact words were "Like Sigel." Mike Sigel was Efren's toughest opponent back in the 80's, and for Efren to say that Mark played like Sigel, meant that Mark was pretty much unbeatable. Everyone was scared to gamble with him when they saw how well he played, in ALL games.

I'm not sure if he is still playing. The IPT might have dissapointed him, and again I can understand why he would quit again if he did. After the IPT crash a handful of players called it quits for good.

Mark Tadd has posted on AZ about 300+ times. Search for his name in the Members tab, and look up all the posts he started. Then you'll get a good feel for why he he quit, when he started playing poker (before the current poker boom), and when he came back to a couple of tournaments.

We've all heard a bunch of stories also. And Mark told us many of them. I hope he comes back here and can fade the group (when it heats up).

I remember he was posting here a while back, and a couple people who had never heard of him started criticising his comments on pool. They had no idea they were talking to someone who was one of the best players in the world in the early 90's.

Sigel was certainly tough back then, but reportedly the player Efren was most afraid of was Buddy Hall. Buddy was the only guy to beat him for the cheese at that premier tournament at Red's. He was asked for a comment about Buddy one time. Efren said, "Buddy, he never mees..."

Incardona and DiLiberto have both said that when Buddy beat Efren at Red's, it was after Efren had been up for like two days, having beaten all the other top players, in a row. They said Efren was visibly exhausted, and DID NOT PLAY WELL AT ALL. If Buddy beat him when he was exhausted, it doesn't hold much merit IMO.

Agreed. Buddy Hall lost to a guy who didn't really play shortstop speed at the time, at the first B.C. Open in Binghamton, NY, in 1985. Word was he'd been drinking, gambling, etc., with no sleep for two days. He was obviously whipped every time he stood up to go to the table.

Played against Mark in a tournament about six months ago in Wendover NV. He was a shadow of his former self. Missed a ball almost every rack. Acted like he didn't care, talking and complaining the whole time. He was either stalling, or going the Strickland route.

I saw him in Reno last December. He placed 25th in that field. But he was still warming up before matches with banks (not 9-ball).

i have posted this before, but i once asked stevie moore who the best player in the world was besides efren(this was around 1990, give or take a year) and stevie had just came off the road wirh strickland. stevies answer was MARK TADD without any hesitation. thats strong.

Playboy, I have just recently purchase a video with Jack hines in it and he plays great. I had never heard of him and it was an old video with Strickland for the right price so I bought it and Jack really impressed me.

I don't want to ruin this wonderful thread about Mark Tadd but could you start another thread about Jack Hines and post some stories, I would appriciate it.

When Mark is playing, no one on earth has to beat him....NO ONE! He can lay off for 6 months, practice for a week and beat most players. He's just that good.

And the man who beat him was named Cliff Boardman. I grew up with Cliff in the Albany/Troy NY area before he moved to the Binghamton area.. Cliff was not a touring pro but, he was a pretty decent player. Unfortunately i was not there to watch him beat Buddy, but he did send me the news paper clip of it.................mike

I might have to agree. But when i asked Dennis Hatch about him and if he had ever played Mark Tadd. Dennis claims to have spotten Mark Tadd and beaten him At Tony Robles's fathers pool room in NYC. I could not believe my ears until Tony Robles, who was standing with Dennis, confirmed it. It appears that it stuck out in Tony's memory because Tony's father had backed Dennis against him that day. So take this story for what it is worth. If Tony had not spoken up i would have just brushed Dennis's remarks off as bragging and not believing him...But hey...I have to believe Tony.................mike

Mark is living in Utah again. He just played in the Utah open a couple of weeks ago, finshed 5-6 I think. He does not play like the old Mark (and doesn't gamble at pool anymore) but he still has some excellent playing moments. Seems to get frustrated because he doesn't execute like he did in the past. Still a very good player; not great anymore. Who know's with some practice.

Not saying this didn't happen, But Dennis really was no match for a in stroke Tad. If this happened there had to be other things in play.

Not at all like Earl. Just a former great player who is not at his best anymore. Perhaps if you ever played great and no longer could you would understand.
