I don't know how many of you have seen the front page of AZ today but Mark Whiteside passed away over the weekend.

Mark was a photographer/writter for many publications and websites over the past years. He was the only writer to take an interest in the Windy City Open the first year.

He was a quiet, pleasant, warm gentleman who loved the sport and will be surly missed.

Our condolences to out to his wife Carol Ann and children.

Mark

Mark, you will truely be missed in Pittsburgh and all around in tournaments everywhere. Your dedication and strive to make POOL a better game to spectators and participants has lead the way for the game to grow in all aspects.

I am honoured to have known you for the 5 years that I have been in Pittsburgh, fond of all the matches that we have played together, and glad to call you a friend. May you always hit them straight where ever your path leads.

To Mark and his family,

It was a pleasure knowing Mark and he will be missed around here (Pittsburgh) and everywhere pool is played. He was a good man that I always enjoyed talking and playing with. Carol, my heart goes out to you and all that were close to him. I am sure our paths will cross again. Thanks Mark for all that you have done for our great game.

you'll be missed

Dear Carol Ann,

Even though I did not know him well in his personal life, Mark seemed like a fine man. I could definitely see his passion for pool. He also took great photographs and maybe alittle unknown to the general pool public, but very well known among those in the media and also among the pro players.

We are all saddened by this loss to the pool community.

I have known Mark and Carol for many years. They are both good people. Mark was truly an asset to our sport and his passing will be felt by many. I always looked forward to seeing him at my events and playing against him in tourneys. He was a true gentleman at the table as he was in everyday life.

Mark and I talked many times about the future of our sport. He always had a way of inspiring me. I know he had the same effect on many people around him. I'm gonna miss having him at my events. The players from the tour that he helped get recognized through his pictures and articles will miss him to. The players that won't get written about or pictures taken of will never know how important Mark was to our sport. I can only hope that his inspiration to others will help carry on his work through there eyes so the masses of tallented players will get the recognition they deserve.

My deepest condolences go out to Carol and Marks kids. I hope carol will stay a part of our sport and I look forward to seeing her at a tourney real soon.

I spoke with Carol the other day and she is doing as well as can be expected. She told me Marks passing was peacefull. She also mentioned that there was going to be a get together in a local pool hall in the Pittsburgh area on Saturday and everyone will be playing pool and drinking Dr Peppers. Marks favorite drink. Mark would have wanted it that way.

Respectfully,

Mike Janis
