Mark Wilson Experience

T-dog,
It is interesting that to start my first lesson with Mark Wilson, he set up probably 10 or 15 shots for me to take while he observed (about 1/3 were somewhat tough on a tight pocket table). I made every one and was very pleased with myself until he then told me, "We've got a lot of work to do building you a new stroke, but I think I can help you." I went in thinking I would just need a little tune-up, when what I really needed was a Monster Garage overhaul. He was right, I was wrong.

Same thing happened to me...lol. I made everything he asked me to and he said that my stroke was my strength but my stroke is also what needed to improve :D

Hey Willie,

After the lesson did you set up those same 10-15 shots and try them with your new stroke? Sure would be a shame if you missed one after the lesson. LOL. Just yanking your chain.

I wonder what Mark Wilson would tell a player like Alan Hopkins about his stroke? Which has to be the worse stroke out there. Or Keith's stroke? But they do get results.

I like that drill but I usually use 9 or 10 balls and start by lining them up at the diamond this side of center pocket, then along the center pocket, then the next diamond and finally the next diamond. I find that these shots constantly come up in games so I find it very worthwhile.

Because I practice these a lot I know how hard they can be so you wouldn't get me to bet on myself.

Stop shots are the easiest. Try following to the pocket.

Oh, I don't mean you Willie. Your game is up there with the pros. I mean the average jamokes like me.

i was lucky, i shot the initial shots terrible.

he set up a shot where the cue ball was near the spot, and the object ball about 18" from the corner pocket, straight in. he wanted me to draw the ball back to the end rail. i shot this shot 4-5 times, and, fortunately, i missed it every time. when we checked the elephant ball we could see why i was missing the shot. mostly because i was hitting just a hair high left or left, or a little of both.

i've got a lot of work ahead of me. however, as Tom Rossman would say "you have the time, table, and desire to do it!" time to get crackin!

i bet he would say about Allen Hopkins, or any others: "As long as its repeating and delivers a straight and accurate stroke thats the majority of the battle"

he even told me he helped Romford Slim with his stroke/game awhile back. now that really impressed me!

I made that shot every time, even though I only had about a two inch follow through :D It's funny to see yourself on tape and see everything your doing wrong!!
