Mark Wilson’s New Book

I am a bit ashamed to say that I learned to play pool in a pool room that Mark Wilson frequents with his students, and I have never sprung for lessons with him. I always knew Mark had an impeccable reputation as a billiards instructor, but I thought “the school of hard knocks” was going to be sufficient. It may well have been if I made pool my vocation, but I put it down for awhile in favor of getting some degrees that I would gladly now return if the schools would give me my money back.

What I mean to say is that I am a biased. I know Mark. I root for him, and I have witnessed him go under-appreciated by our community MYSELF INCLUDED (see paragraph above) for years.

So when I heard rave review upon rave review of his new $70 book, I came to the conclusion that I could not afford to not get this book, as I think I made a mistake not taking lessons from Mark at an earlier age. (I am now 34). To me $70 for a book seemed high, but interestingly, I didn't really hear any complaints from the people that bought the book.

I bought the book, and I read the bulk of it one night.

I have been playing pool for 21 years. I have high runs of 5 racks in 9ball, 7 points in three-cushion, and 43 balls in straight pool. I have read many of the billiards instruction books in the canon of that genre, and I think Mark’s book has AT LEAST 3 tips that I have NEVER heard anyone posit prior to Mark. I am not saying people didn’t know this stuff, but I am saying that I don’t think some of these ideas were published. They certainly were not published in away that made the instruction so easy to understand and execute. Any ONE of these "new ideas" (at least new to me after 21 years of playing) would be worth the $70 price.

After the first night, I could not stay away from the pool room; I just had to go try all this stuff I was learning. I think my game picked up half a ball the INSTANT I read a few ideas in his book and it showed at the pool room. With practice, this book will drastically improve my game and yours.

If you have not bought Mark’s book, quit wasting your life, drop what you are doing, and if you only have $70 to your name, spend it on this book. You will not be disappointed.

To Mark Wilson: Thank you for devoting yourself so completely to this book. In my view, it is EASILY the best book that has ever been written in the genre of billiards instruction. I believe you have advanced billiards knowledge with this book, and in the future I think your book will contribute to a higher standard of play among the people that choose to take advantage of it.

Sincerely,

lessons

If I could afford it I would train with Mark every day as a job. I have not read his book yet. The mental info he offers into the game during a lesson is incredible. He is really an awesome guy to talk pool with and learn from.
