Marking Simonis 760 for side pockets on an Antique Brunswick table

I'm recovering my table and am trying to follow the Simonis DVD. Where would you start with your measurements for the side pockets? DVD says 13/16 and 5/8 on the side pockets but less if it's an antique. The side pockets measure 5 1/4 wide and only 2" deep. Much smaller than modern tables I believe. You can see in the pictures how shallow the sides actually are...

It shouldn't make much difference as far as I can determine. The cloth will have a droop over the packet that will mostly stretch out when putting the rest of the cloth on. The 13/16 and 5/8 is the amount that isn't stretched, which is really based on a percentage of the rest of the side cloth, so a very small change over the 4' or so. Someone will likely correct me if I'm wrong about this... :)

I would not leave that much slack. Unless your stretch index is really tight, you risk having a loose spot by the side pocket eventually.
A side that shallow I'd leave about 1/4" on each side. I glue the cloth in there though, so it's easier to close the pockets. You might want a little more slack if you're only stapling.
Close out the sides before you stretch the ends, that gives you a little more leeway too.

Call me, 702-927-5689 I'll tell you what the stretch index is, if not, then because your slates are not the full cut radius cuts, then cut the stretch index down by 50% on both sides pockets

Thanks!!! 50% worked great. I'll have to look at my numbers for the stretch but I did it the way shown in the Simonis DVD. A lot different than the way I did it in 2007. Nice to see you guys are still answering questions and helping people out. I restored this table back in 2007 and had a whole lot of support from you guys back then! Keep up your support!!! https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/finished-jefferson-restoration.68753/#post-798399

I did 3/8" on my 1885 Brunswick Manhattan. it worked but I wish I had done a little more.
Those look like Adler rails, not the original. How did you do the cloth on the rail corners as they turned into the pockets? There is no stapling ledge like on other tables. Did you fold the corner pockets like the side? Any close up pictures you can post? I spent hours trying to figure out mine. I'm not sure if I did it right but could not find a thing about them anywhere online.

Eric, I glued a strip of cloth to the slate and liner (just in case the slit goes higher than the last step). I then pulled in the cloth and stapled it. Cut the ends off, then added a piece of cloth right at the slate/liner intersection with a row of staples from one side to the other almost touching each other. Then folded the cloth over the staples and used carpet tacks to hold it in at the bottom. Looks much better than the silver staples you would see through the leather pockets.
