Masse or Jump shot?

I was shooting leagues last night and it was playoffs and I barely hooked my self and had the cue ball frozen on the bottom rail and the 8ball was in the middle of the table and there was a solid barely in my way of a straight shot on the 8. In my league there is no jumping but u can masse as long as your wrist doesn't go above your armpit. So I raised up and masse around the opponets ball and while doin so I guessed the ball bounced off the table a tiny bit. I didn't notice it jumped up but some of the opposing players did. I made good legal contact and eventually went on to win the game. But after the match was done one of the players came up to me and said she would have called a foul because the ball barely jumped off the table. I said It was a masse not a jump. But she said that it didn't matter and that if the cue ball bounces off the table in any way it is considered a jump. I didn't argue with her because the match was over and it was unnecessary to do so but I wuld like to know what the correct answer would be and if it would be considered a jump or not so I know for future reference.
Thanks

The correct answer is there shouldn't be rules barring a masse or jump shot.

I'd say if the ball curved around another ball, it wasn't a jump shot. Obviously she has never heard of a jump masse shot.

The CB leaves the table on just about every shot. On a rail-draw shot it's off the table for the first 2-3 feet of travel. Stack two dimes about 10" from the CB and shoot...you'll go right over the dimes without disturbing them.

I agree. they shuldnt ban jumping cuz then we wuldnt have these type of problems during the game or match. But unfortunatly I don't make the rules lol I jus try to follow them

Back in the 70's at a local qualifying tournament for State, a referee watched all the games and called all fouls. One drunk ref called a foul on my brother saying the ball left the table. The cue ball hopped a bit and was about 4 or 5 inches above the felt but stayed on the table.

Booze and ignorance of the rules at play there.

What he said! Try and get ahold of the person that said that about it being a foul if the cb ever leaves the table, and have them do that little test. Then you can get a good chuckle just watching the look on their face while they stand there trying to figure it all out. :D

Record one of them breaking. I will bet 95% of the breaks the cueball leaves the table "barely" like she said. Your shot is not a jump shot. Whoever will call that shot a jump is a nit, the worst kind or league player that can't wait to jump over (pardon the pun LOL) every real or imagined rule infraction so they can win. Not beat you, just win.
