Here at Hawaiian Brian's there is majority agreement that the present master chalk is not as good as the old, powdery not creamy, both Rodney Morris, and Hawaiin Brian say that the company changed the formula, but Master says no...What is the quality of chalk at your PH, and what brand do you use?

I wonder if the trend toward harder, layered tips has anything to do with this impression.

It does seem to apply and adhere differently to different type of tips.

Just a thought, maybe I'm crazy.

Could be didn't think of that, but I do know that Rocket uses Le Pro tips on his cues, though...

I use LePro's also.

The chalk definitely goes on differently on my cue than on a house stick with an Elk Master, or some other soft tip.

Next time you see Rodney, ask him how long he's been using LePro tips.

I use Triangle chalk and I find it has much better coverage than Master. I also have heard complaints about the new Master. Maybe there is something to it.
 
I know from personal use that there was at least one bad batch of masters blue last year. The whole box was bad. Extreamly powdery. Got all over creation, hands, clothes, table......
 
I have been using gray Masters. Which is suppose to be the same, but it doesn't seem to be as chalky as the blue........plus the gray chalk leaves a gray tint on your shafts. Rather than the blue, just my preferance.
 
Rocket and Le Pro

Has been using Le Pros a longitme, says that the consistency he gets with Le Pros, and that he can find them anywhere he travels is the main reason. Concensus here is that the bad batch is still around although Brian's provides the green master chalk.

Has anyone tried the Balabushka chalk seems to provide better coverage but can't find it on the net, or how the Brunswick premiums??

I'm not a fan of Balabushka chalk but tons of it is being sold on E-bay. Look for a seller with the username American Cowboy Billiards.
 
You guys must be getting the stuff from last year or something I haven't run into a bad piece yet on the new batch. I always use master chalk. Just about any other chalk I've used I have found to be to chalky and wouldn't stick to my tip. You'll know if you are getting any from the new batches if you have the U.S flag on the side. I know a lot of the stuff from last year was chalky and didn't stick very well

so the new master chalks coming out today are the ones with the us flag on its side?
what about those with the premium writing on its side but with no us flag?

Master changed the tint in their green chalk a few years ago. It use to be a darker green and now it is closer to a florescent green. It's a lot brighter than it use to be.

Lead use to be in chalk, it still may be in some brands but I doubt it. I had a couple of flyers up (from the health dept) at the room warning people about lead. It was during that time that Tweeten changed the tint in the green. I never noticed a change in blue. I still have some new, old peices of green and there definately darker than the new. I have old blue also but I don't really see a difference.

what's the main difference between the old and new masters btw? is it the us flag on its side?
 
That is wright, i bought a new box of master chalk in the USA (with the flag on it) and that is why i thought it wasn't so good as the one i bought in Holland.'
But now i read this article, you are right this chalk leaves more chalkdust on the table.

yeah, i like the one with the premium writing on it, it sticks more on my cue compared with the one with the us flag on its side.
i thought i just got ripped...:)
 
I have a cube of "flag" master chalk and "non flagged" master chalk. The non flagged stuff seems much finer and leaves a finer coat on my Triangle tip than the non flag stuff. But we're comparing only one cube of chalk to an other cube as opposed to entire batches of the stuff.

I use Master GREEN, it is the King of Green Chalk....:D

Does Masters green blend in with the table cloth pretty well? Blue does but I can still see it here and there. I have Simonis 860 with standard green.
