Match Mentality

Heard a great quote last night on sportsnet from George st Pierre (A UFC fighter) that made me think of pool,
He was speaking of a fight that he lost to one of his idols, to paraphrase he roughly said "I went into the fight trying not to lose, instead of trying to win"

How many times have we all done this? I remember my first match against a known "pro" I was terrified of screwing up, instead of focusing on trying to win.

Good insight Johnny.

I think we should all focus on the positive side rather than the negative in every aspect of pool, not just this one. For example, trying to not stand up on a shot is much more difficult than trying to stay down, or stay still. Think about moving the cue ball to a particular spot rather than "don't get behind the 7 ball". There are many other examples but you get my point.

That's a great quote. Something I am sure we have all done but should certainly try to avoid.

Good Post,
Darin
