Matching shaft to butt

How big of a job is it to match an "aftermarket" shaft to a butt? In my case, the shaft is slightly over-sized, i.e. it "over-hangs" about 1/4 the way around the joint but is flush the rest of the way around. Both shaft and butt have collars w/ a silver ring.

It's not so much "big" but it takes time to do the job correctly. This may involve sanding the shaft down slightly below joint size, spraying with a few coats of clear, and sanding/polishing shaft to joint size and existing joint concentricity. Many of the cuemakers who post here on AZB could handle such a task. I'm not sure what the cost would be but I estimate no more than an hour labor. YMMV.

Something is unconcentric on your cue, whether it be the pin or the insert. Either way, it can be fixed. I charge $45 to match the aftermarket shaft but if you do not need the ringwork replaced, I could do it for $25. That icludes new clearcoat on the shaft.

I have found that in this business that for the most part, most mechanics are honest and fair, there are others, though, who I feel, really gouge. I seldom say anything about that aspect of cue repair but it does do a slow burn with me. I have never seen any of Ryan's work but I have no reason to believe that it would be anything other than first class. What most impresses me, though. is his more than fair prices. He has posted what he charges for cues and many repairs on this forum and as far as I've noticed they have all been fair. I wish you well in the future.

Hi Ryan,
I agree with Dick, that does sound like fair pricing. The cue in question is a Shon with a 314 (1st gen) shaft. Of course, I suspect it's the shaft that's unconcentric...not by much, but enough to wobble a bit when rolled.
Well, if I decide not to get an OB-1, I'll give you a holler, but I am REALLY curious about the OB-1!
