matching up a shaft to butt...wood to wood joint

i have a predator sneaky pete that i purchased an aftermarket shaft for, a 314-2 like the original it came with but the diameter is off and the shaft is really white compared to the butt, like if the butt was stained differently
the original shaft was stained the same color as the butt so it didn't look like the wrong shaft at the joint, only where the clear finished could you see the blueing, but at the joint it was the same, not like it is now with the new shaft
my question for cuemakers is could the shaft be stained to be the same color as the butt or would the whole cue need to be refinished to match it up perfectly?

Predator SPs are not stained, nor are the shafts.
The color of the wood of the shaft varies from shaft to shaft.

I'm not really seeing a difference in the fit-up of the shaft.
Would you be so kind as to provide results from the use of calipers ?

Your fingers can feel variations measured in fractions of microns. While it does look to me like the new shaft is a hair prouder than the original, I would suspect it is within an acceptable "after market shaft tolerance".

i'll get that caliper reading up when i get my new ones in the mail, my old pair broke last week
and yes it's minimal in the color but bothersome, maybe i'll just have to deal with it

Given that the joint is not in your bridging area, it becomes cosmetic and not affecting play - to the point that you can forget about it and play on, but small things often affect the brain.
As far as matching the stain, it looks to me like the shaft in the 2nd picture was made from the same dowel as the butt - those darker streaks match very closely, at least in width - the grain is a little different. If that is what you are trying to match up colorwise - well, it's beyond me how to do it.

The two woods are different colors and nothing is going to change that.
I would prefer to see a black ring on the shaft to break it up and give it some added strength.

Predator shafts are all laminated, not one piece.

Eddie, It is very rare that an aftermarket shaft will match a butt perfectly.
I think the only way you are going to get the results you want is to send it off to a cue maker for a fitting and possible refinish.
Be sure to send the original shaft to have it done also.
That way everything will match up like you want it to.
