Watchin' my buddy Dave up at Jesse Bowman's big bar-box blowout. Dave still has serious game at 67. He finished 7-8th in 8b and is in the 10b now. Go gettem' bar king!!
Same age as me. Efren Reyes too. I think Jay Helfert is about the same age and aren't you also garczar?
Of course my game is nothing like Dave's, and never has been, but I sure still enjoy playing.

Matlock was long a name that put fear on the faces of bar table players. Take a good look, the man was solid as a rock at the table. Dave was a world class player who also played great on 9' tables. He was not just the bar box King. He was also a strong Three Cushion player and could run a century on the snooker table.

I've got a few years on Dave and I was never in his league. We never played, but have been friends for close to fifty years. Every time I ever saw him playing anyone on a bar table I bet on Dave, and I don't think I ever lost. I advised Keith to leave him alone and he did not play Matlock while I was in with him. He was on his own there. Buddy was the only other guy I would put in this league with David and Keith. Maybe Wade Crane too.

There was a Mexican guy that came up here in the late 1970's and early 80's and beat on just about everybody on the bar tables. They called him Cannela (not the Cannela who still plays now, out of Vegas I think), and I never saw him play, just heard stories about him. He spent time up here at least twice and I never heard of anyone beating him. The he went back to Mexico and got hooked on the big H and that was the end of his pool career.

heard a story from a reliable source of dave and buddy matching up playing 9 ball on the bar box for many thousands
old style push out.
early on dave realized that buddy couldnt jump the big cue ball like dave could
so he pushed to a jump shot when necessary and won the set

Wouldn't doubt it. Dave could/can do things with the big ball that defies logic. Grew up playing 3c so he developed a crazy powerful stroke.

Mark has seen it a bunch up-close. They used to play 3c a lot when he was in town. Dave and J. Whitman are the guys that schooled him on kicking. He listened well. ;)
