McDermott Competitor Series Cues? (buying first cue)

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy my first pool cue soon, with a budget of about 150$.

I dont have much to choose between, basicaly one shop in the 300 km area (i'm from croatia btw).


This is the cue series im asking about link .

Im eyeing Velocity black plus, or Alpha plus dark english. Seem like nice simple cues.

How do they play? Do they have pro taper? Would you say they are good value for that money? Overpriced or not?




Other than those i have a selection of Mcfarland cues (not familliar with that brand at all), and some Scorpions.

There is a Cuetec Thunderbolt for $125.00 on here someplace. Pretty good first cue.

oops! just noticed it was out of stock. In general you will get the most cue for your money by purchasing a sneaky pete.

I'm not sure but I think I play with a cue from their Competitive series. It was a solid cue that I later just brought a new shaft for.

What did you think of the shaft that came with the stick? Whats the taper like? I wouldnt like it too thick/conical.

the shaft is okay, it is 13mm so it's kind of thick I suppose: I play on a 11.75 so that might be an unfair statement. It is a nice hitting cue as is, the tip that comes with it holds chalk very well I must say.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'll probably buy a cue from this series, and perhaps later upgrade to a new shaft just like both of you did.

I did try one, but it had a predator "Z" shaft on it (and it was awesome!!!), but that is way beyond my budget for now.
