No I have not seen a D-7 stained like that. My guess would be a custom refinish job, but I suppose if a guy wanted one like that McDermott would accommodate the customer.
As for value, yes I would think it would negatively effect the value. It certainly doesn’t work for me. I like natural maple, no stain.
Most McDs were available stained in about 8 or 10 choices. The grey/smoke looked nice initially but I feel it got darker over time and lost some appeal.
Interesting. I did not realize they always had the stain choices. Ya. I have seen pictures of a guy who has the whole D series with the grey stain (now that I am looking for it) some look cool to me, others really don't work in my eyes.
I’m really not a fan of stains on fine, exotic hardwoods. Some of those stains are basically like paint. I don’t know for sure, but it looks like a D-7 forearm was made with either BEM, quilted maple, or at a min good grade northern maple.
