McDermott I2 shaft: Minimum Thickness?

Hello Everybody:

I have a question concerning the I2 shaft from McDermott. My friend wants to have his shaft turned down quiet a bit. Maybe 11.5mm or so. Is it safe to go so small or is it coming close to the carbon inserts?

The same I was told.....

I believe that all the I shafts are the same internally. That would mean you can go down to the size of the I -3 shaft. I would call McDermott to be absolutely certain though. I have an I3 shaft that measures 11.62mm where the wood meets the ferrule.
