McDermott technology fall behind (butt extension is not in option)

I own over 10 McDermott cue, from lucky-start- H series and VQM1 break cue and jump cue. And the G 605 series worth $1100 and the butt have no option to use extension. To me McDermott fallen behind with other name brands on this option. That’s make many pool cue players start to use cuetec more. Cuetec standard comes with extension in the box and the price is the same as the McDermott VQM1 Mach 1 break cue.
McDermott will losing users on this purpose. Anyone agrees with me?
 
Haven't hit a McD in 25+yrs. Well, actually i did hit a 1st. gen. Defy and hated it. I think all their current designs are pretty un-attractive. BTW, Cuetec does NOT come with ext. The bumper is ext. ready but you have to buy it separately. McD does have ext ready bumpers too. Just check'd out of sheer boredom.. ;) https://www.mcdermottcue.com/pool-cue-extensions.php

yeah the gen 1 Defy wasn't the best. They are on Gen 3 now. It slides sooooo much better now.

The amount of dampening was decreased, too, in the latest generations.
 
As Paul noted, there are extensions for McDermott. I have the older style extension (The top picture in Paul's post) and it works fine but takes a bit to screw in versus something like a Predator extension.
 
I've been trying to get McDermott to make me a 60 inch or longer cue for a couple of years now and they have no interest. They said it wouldn't be cost effective for them to do so.

I have a McD that Mike Massey gave me as a gift, it’s 61” long I think. It’s by far the longest cue I own without extension.

When I get to where the cue is I’m gonna take pics of it and measure it. I’ll post it in the cue gallery section. I’ve owned it about 14 years I’d guess. I mentioned it here a month or so ago, I didn’t realize I’ve had it that long.

Alternative McDermott Butt Extension?

I own a couple of McDermott cues and I want to use an extension on some of them. I really don't like McDermott's extensions, and their Engage bumper has to be retrofit. Is there some sort of kit that goes into a McDermott butt that can accept...

I just got a rosewood Schmelke 60" sneaky. With the few mods i had done the grand total delivered was 180bux. Really a nice cue for less than shafts usually cost.

I think some players do need that option as a standard. The McDermott cue needs an extension, and you need to get the kit that is drilled into the butt pad plug and has the screw-in size installed. It’s not very user-friendly and looks cheap for a name-brand product.

I have had both models of their extension. The older version (one with the long thread) is easy to install. However it does take a long time to put the extension on. The engage system is very user friendly and easy to use. It is literally a quarter turn. If you order a new cue, you can have that built into the cue and have the extension shipped with the cue. As far as the look, meaning a hole in the bumper, many other cues that have built in extensions have a hole in the bumper so its not really different.

I understand that getting the engage retrofit on a cue you didn't order is a process. You do have to send that in, unless you are at the SBE or APA Worlds and it can be done in person. (older cues still have to be sent in) It comes down to a preference then. Order the older extension that takes a long time to screw in, but you don't have to send your cue in, or send you cue in to get the better extension.
 
I make these. You can have them any length you like
A 8" extension is about 100g. Takes two turns to take off. Same diameter as the cue and a regular 5/8 bumper. I do modify the recess, so it looks nicer.
