Just got myself a measle ball, and am already appreciating the difference those red dots make...

What is with kittens and chasing red dots?

Another benefit of the measle ball is that once you get it you probably won't ever have to get it again.

Thats about all that ball is good for: a cat toy!
Pushout: bring it back!
A good red circle for me.

Well...

I'm trying to lean my basic skills, and videos made me think the dots will help me see what the ball is doing as I learn cue ball control. My intention is just to use the measle ball pretty much all the time, learn to watch it, and hopefully it will be one more positive factor in my training. :)

I have to say though, these kittens (6 mos) wore themselves out chasing that cue ball around for 15-20 minutes - pretty high on the kitten-toy scale!

The Rempe training CB will also help as it shows exactly where you hit the CB. There are a few problems with that ball though. You need to wipe the chalk off after every time of using or the to chalk will leave a stain. I messed mine up by using a cleaning or polish on it and wore off the coating that makes the chalk stick. The other is it is rather tedious setting it up correctly for every shot.

I have many DVDs and this one has really helped me the most.

I found the first drill he showed of shooting the CB into the pocket really helped me on my stroke. Follow his recommendation to the T and don't just go thru the motions.

I then set up the first drill in the book. This is another that you should really concentrate on. Don't be too quick to move on from it until you really master it and I mean master to where your shots are perfect. Dont leave the first straight in drill until you can stop the ball every time dead center, follow the OB in the pocket and draw it back on a straight line.

Then when you do your first cut shot drill don't move on until you hit the same tangent line on the rail and the target ball every time or get close to it. Don't move on because you are satisfied that you can make the cut shot It will take a lot of effort and frustration but if you really focus on every shot and make sure that you master that shot completely before moving to the next patern of the same shot you will really progress more than just by banging balls around. This will help you to stroke the CB, hot the same spot on it every time, hit the OB on the proper spot and control your speed.

It may take weeks or months to move on to the next drill but it will pay off.

Measles Ball

Like others I prefer the red circle ball. Over the years my proficiency and sensitivity has increased to the point that the slightest change upsets my finely tuned fingers. I can tell what ball I'm using; measles ball, a red circle, a blue circle, a red dot, or blue dot. Even cue tips, moori, kamui, lepro, triangle, morokami and so on. I can pick out whichever one I'm using............blind folded! Nah, I'm a banger, lol. A banger is a banger. A champion is a champion. Accepting the truth, well, that's the hard part.

In all fairness, I think most experienced players have little or nothing to gain from the measle ball - but for someone like me, just starting to build basic skills, I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't think it would actually help...some...

I play with the measle ball for two reasons looks awesome when draw the heck out of it and that's what mostly all pro tournaments are using

I have the Rempe cue ball and it's a lot of hype.........two sides to it.....one side is way is okay as it breaks the cue ball hemisphere into quadrants large enough to functionally use........the reverse side is useless.......way too busy and small........you have to play with a 11mm tip for it to be truly helpful....and way overpriced too.......stick with other training aids.
