I asked around locally and had a lot of recommendations for one guy in particular. He came in and helped me set up my GCI, but I feel it is not nearly "as good as it can be". I should have stopped him mid-stream because I was underwhelmed with his approach... but I don't think there was any real damage done.
The table is structurally in good condition. It is playable, so I am able to wait for someone to be in the area.
In particular, one of the slates is not level and affects the roll. Also there is a glob of wax that needs to be scraped off, I assume it will cause the felt to wear there.
I should have known when he started telling the story about this cranky woman who complained about the job he had done. Her balls wouldn't roll straight, and his explanation was that the balls aren't perfectly round to start with.
Anyway, I am hoping that one of you masters will be travelling through my neck of the woods sometime and can swing through and help me get the table sorted. I am tempted to remove the rails and pull the felt and try it myself.
Can anyone help? This table has the potential to be near perfect. I am in Roanoke, VA.
