Memphis rooms

I lived and played in Memphis for 20+ years. I rarely saw 1 pocket played any place but the Peoples Billiard Parlor.....and alas.....the old place was closed down. I have heard rumors it was resurected but I doubt the new place caters to die hard players....more like a yuppie amusement center where the video games outnumber the pool tables. Here is where it gets a bit tricky in this post.....there are any number of back alley pool halls located in some really bad parts of town. Gang violence has really taken hold in Memphis....and racisim on both sides has always been a very real part of the Memphis story. It is just too damn dangerous to seek out these halls without a knowledgeable friend. I wish it were otherwise.....and long for " the good old days".....Dan

Hitman, if you are looking for a one hole game in Memphis, you are in luck... we have several rooms and a lot of good players at various speeds all the way to champion...

to answer Dan, peoples is still open, in the same place, back in the day it may have been an action room, but now it does just fine with tourists and people who live downtown... also the whole racism thing has dissipated considerably, we have a multicultural community here in Memphis and are proud of it... we have come a long way in the last few years and many barriers have been broken down and allowed progress to take place in our fair city... you and your family should drop by for a visit and spend some money...

Hitman, if you want, PM or call and I can help you out...

good luck,

DP...I'm glad to hear that "Peoples" has been saved from the dozers. My post was not intended to disparage Memphis or it's many good citizens. My entire family still resides there and I am aware of some changes having been made by the new mayor. It is still a dangerous city, the murder and violent crimes statistics confirm this. Memphis ranks in the top 10 violent cities every year. I would never suggest that a friend go out to Hickory Hills, Whitehaven, N. Second St., Danny Thomas Blvd anywhere N of Poplar. or many other hot spots. I still maintain close friendships with 2 deputy sheriffs and about 5 police officers. They certainly don't feel Memphis is safe for a "Tourist" to cruise about in while looking for some action. My intent was to provide a real picture of the dangers that one could encounter while on such a mission. If you are going to escort this gentleman and show him some good halls......reps to ya.....But please don't whitewash the very real danger present.
