I've read up about these cues with wood joints, and I figured that one would make a cue joint wood to wood no matter what, seems like common sense to me. A friend showed me her cue shes trying to sell, and lo and behold, it had a metal joint! Never seen one. I've been told they aren't that great as the vibration is stopped there and not transferred to your hand. What makes a metal joint such a no-no?

Everyone has thier own opinion on what kinda joint they like on a cue.
I prefer a Stainless Steel, i like the way it feels, and it tends to give a stiffer hit.
Some people like Ivory, or a wood to wood, or phenolic joint.
Phenolic joint seems to be very popular with custom cues. But most custom cue makers will put any type of joint on thier cues.
But everything is personal preference. best thing to do is if your friends have a variety of cues with different types of joints, try them for a day, or so, and see which you like best.

nomenclature wise, a wood joint IMO refers to a carom type joint where the screw is wood and turned out of the shaft. A wood to wood joint typically refers to the metal screw and plastic flat face joints that a lot of pool cues use. Would you rather have a wood to wood cheapo production cue or a stainless steel joint ginacue? It isn't all in the joint.

i have another flatface that has a very thin walled ss collar. it feels great also.
in both cases i get the zing of a flatface with some hardness at the joint that still gives me some feel for the hit.
