meucci 97-09

not sure if this is the right forum for such question but does anyone know if meucci 97-09 used ivory on the inlays, butt cap and ferrule? i picked up this cue at a pawn shop recently (came with two shafts) and was trying it out at the hall. the guy i was playing looked it over and said that several of the inlays were real ivory. he was an older fellow (late 70's) but had an eye like an eagle and repaired cues as a sidejob. he pointed out the grain in the ivory pieces, comparing them to the smooth plastic of some spacer pieces. i've emailed meucci a few times previously but don't seem to rate a response. any info on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

No there is no ivory in a 97-09 cue. If someone tells you there is ivory in a Meucci cue...don't believe them.

There might be real ivory in an old David Howard Giant Killer cue, or the rare King James Rempe Cue, but don't worry...you'll never get to see that one in person.

I generally find cue experts in pool halls to be a rarity for some reason. I also find all too may "side job repair guys" know surprisingly little about pool cues.

I really don't know why this is.

I have seen a lot of people take their grandpa's pool cue (or whatever) to a pool hall thinking they will come away with answers and invariable, every time, come away with misinformation. So fai I have not heard of anybody in such circumstances getting the correct info.

Again...it's a mystery...I have no idea why.....

He can identify ivory by just looking at it in the inlay? Amazing. Even the best experts can't do that with much certainty at all. You truly found the ultimate expert hidden away in obscurity. :wink:


Point 1) Meucci cues use and have used more plastic in them than any other cue I can imagine. Start with that idea.

A Meucci with an Ivory butt cap? Go back to point one. Repeat 100 times.
