I just purchased what I believe to be an MO1 from around '76 as its wrapless. Was it normal for the cue to have red lettering and a red ring above the buttcap. Most I have seen are white. Also what should the original shaft have for a collar? Black with a thin red ring like mine? This is my first MO so I Ann not to familiar them even though I play with meucci. What was a standard shaft diameter for this cue? Mine appears to be 13mm or more with out a way to measure accurately. Also the tip is way to hard and was likely replace before being shipped. Is it possible to get an original tip for it? Or what kind did it come with? I would love to play with this cue the way it was supposed to be so any info would be appreciated...I'll add pictures if need be later.

I am absolutely no expert but if I remember from my past it seems like something called "elk master" was used around that period for some cues or cue repairs. I could be completely wrong.

LePro is standard now, not sure about then. The tip is something that nobody in the world would fault you for on a cue that's been played with, when evaluating original condition... like headlight bulbs on a classic car, they get changed out. Put on your flavor of tip (if you want something to make it play like it may have when new, pick your preferred non-layered tip) and enjoy!

If I remember right, Meucci cues came with 13 1/4 mm. shafts and did until recently. I'm no expert, though.

This cue is built like an old Louie Roberts Meucci Original. Louie's cues had the red lettering. It's done with a red crayon. White is done with a white crayon.

The tips Bob used to use was called a modified Le Pro. He said he had them made special and did something magical to them. Maybe he blessed them with some kind of prayer and Holy Water?

Shafts were always usually 13mm and it's good it is still 13mm. Anything smaller would mean---someone used a green pad or sandpaper to make it smooth or to keep it clean.

Would the shaft have a red ring on the collar when the joint doesn't? It strikes me as odd that if its original they don't match.

So the shaft is not original but is an old meucci yet with a ferrul that's over an inch

Looks like the pin was replaced and the joint collar has been shortened. Your butt is probably under 29 inches long.

About the red...looks like someone colored it in. Doesn't look good enough to come from the Meucci factory from 1976.

And it's not the original ferrule and tip of course.

I can't tell from the picture if it's the original shaft.

Looks like a good cue but not an original Original.

Just my opinion of course.

Did you miss the red band at the other end of the butt? My guess is possibly a rebuilt, a custom ordered, or an experimental Meucci.

That is the only red band other the shaft. The cue is about a half in shorter then any other cue I own

Meucci Tip

Just looking around and I found this------------>

What kind of tip does Meucci use?
In most cases, we use a medium-hard, modified, LeProfessional tip from Tweeten Fibre. Bob Meucci was used as a consultant in the development of this tip in 1969 while employed by National Tournament Cues in Chicago, IL.

Meucci used Lepro I believed on their cues, shaft size was 13.25 I believe a little larger than the std 13....I will look further into the past

:scratchhead:

Not sure why you'd want to try and look it up when I copied it and pasted what kind of tip was used.

13mm was always the standard tip size years ago. Even today when I order Meucci Cues I always order a 13mm black dot, red dot, or no dot.

I always order 13mm 'cause the way Meucci's non-quality control works. This way it will be at least 12.75mm.
