Meucci Diamond Ebony

I've talked to more than a few high-end cue makers who dye/stain their ebony cues because there are so many customers who think ebony wood should all be jet black. I never understood that. I think a big part of what makes cues unique is natures imperfections.

Then again, I also don't mind hearing guitar strings squeak. Let's me know a human is actually playing it.

Hello everyone.

I would like to ask for your opinions about this Cue thay I bought from Seybert. It was advertised as Limited Diamond Ebony cues, which made from African Ebony.

So, I got it delivered, and several people I showed it to have criticized it to some degrees

1/ the Wood Grains dont appear to be African Ebony, Jet Black or Deeper Black. This Grains is of lower quality Ebony, Substitutes of Asian Ebony...etc..

2/ there is no number on the Cues, it means this is a regular production run and not limited run. I emailed SeyBert and they confirmed this is Limited Edition. The numbering just doesnt look good on the cue, so they didn't have it on.

3/ a teammate showed his Predator BLAK 4 and it ebony color looked deeper, blacker. He even said that his predator would be more likely to hold value than the Meucci ?

Anyone out there can confirm if African Ebony do look this light ? Thanks

That is a nice cue. I'm sure it plays good. I like the quality of the cues that Meucci is producing now.

Thank you all! So it appears to be just a high end Meucci stick, not Limited stick as I originally thought and or listed by SeyBert
It's a shame those companies toss around terms like 'Limited' and 'Custom' to the crowd who places high value on their meaning in some cases. Guess I can't really blame them. They're selling a product, but it's borderline sketchy at times.

I thought most Predators were painted black.

They do have some iconic designs. Always did like the looks of many of their cues.
Back when 4 pt inlay and boxes was about all most cuemakers offered, You could get a casino or gambler, fish hook, giant killer, etc... and Bob was still around.
Can't leave out McDermott and Huebler from my comment. They too were making some 'different' cues.

Casino still has killer looks. Especially with the Mother of pearls and or Paua Shells

Looks like nice ebony to me. Like other have said, ebony can have many variations in both grain and color. I have a 1 of 1 custom Rick Howard with Macassar ebony that has several light almost brown streaks in it and I love it. Personally, I love to see some grain in the wood. I think you have a beautiful Meucci cue that you should be very proud of!

Many people like the lighter shades - the golden tones or what have you. Most of the ebony on cues I have is dark. Very dark. Hard to see the grain at all. I like it that way however, so I'm lucky in that regard.

Interesting! First time I hear golden tone Ebony, beside Jet Black. Learn something new everyday. Thank you

I worked for a guy that was from Africa. He would go back there a couple times a year.
He had connections that could make anything out of local materials. One time he brought back wallets made from bigass snakes. I think I still have it 25+ years later.

Anyhow, he also once brought back some letter openers. They were ebony. When I asked him about the colors he said that most people think ebony is black but that's OLD ebony and it's not as available as it once was. The blonde ebony was young ebony that, if left to grow, it would eventually turn black. The letter openers were blond and black (dark brown).

I did ask him about getting a pool cue made from ebony and he said he'd look into it. I think that's about the time life took over then and we both forgot about it. I ended up leaving the company before life evened out and he passed away a few years ago so I'll just have to let that one go.

When I ordered my Coos Cue I asked for the blackest ebony John had. It’s as jet black as I’ve ever seen but it made my cue a bit heavier than I originally wanted but it looks and plays fabulously.

pearl-n-paua meucci's look like pimp stix to me. horrid looking things. https://www.meuccicues.com/products/21st-century-3 looks like a cue Shaft would have used in a 70's movie.
Personal preferences for sure. I love those look. To me, all the pointed veneer are generics, nothing special about them. Others more complex inlays are also mostly decals. The newest Cues Lee Snake limited series are insanely nice though, and if I had the cash to burn, that would be ways better than any custom stick I would like
