A pool buddy contacted me today and asked if I could identify an older Meucci that he may acquire from a woman who lives next to him. Her father had owned this cue for close to forty years or so (he was the original owner).
When my friend presented it to me I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There inside a Palmer Original 1 X 2 case was a Meucci MO-5 (bumperless Hoppe) cue in pretty good original condition (I've seen pics of these...even one that was for auction on ebay but never one up close).
Actually I would say it was in very good condition as the cue/shafts had no dings, rolled straight, no chips to the bottom of the cue and the Meucci Original logo completely intact. There were two shafts with the cue with plenty of diameter. Original exposed wrap and the cue itself appeared to be not finished at least by today's standards.
I got a chance to play with it at lunch today and won all but two games. It had a great feel to it and I was able to put all kinds of english on the cue ball.
My question is...Would anyone begin to tell be what price tag this would fetch today? According to the first brochure it was released on the cue at that time was $135.00 and that was with one shaft.
I told my friend that I believed this to be a very sought after Meucci and he seemed quite pleased at that disclosure. He is a big fan of Meucci cues and he owns three of them. He shoots with them all at one time or another and would shoot with anything else...very old school.
Thanks in advance...
