Mezz Weight Bolt

I’m experimenting with a 3” butt extension on my Mezz Ace181. Now the cue feels bit heavier than I like. I would like to totally remove the weight bolt & play with none. Anything wrong with this? I really like the cue & don’t want to damage it in anyway.

You won't damage anything.(having a bolt in could prevent possible water damage tho l )

I have 4 mezz cues.
Also u can get a -quarter Oz- bolt from mezz ,( I have one. )If u want to plug the hole. It's short and made of aluminum I believe. You can cut it off and make it even lighter. Just make sure you have three turns worth of threads and nock the bur off with sandpaper or a file. Get them from mezz usa.

MEZZ weight bolt HEX HEAD IS metric 6mm I believe. I use a harbor freight multi hex key tool with the chamfered end -toolshop- brand.

I use the Exceed 2 inch extender. And leave it on. So my cue is 60 inch instead of 58. I dont notice too much the weight of it honestly you forget it's there. They make a 4 inch too. But I wanted as little balance change as possible. And 4 inch doesn't fit in the case without removing it. If I want more reach I use a 30 inch shaft (9 foot table) . If I need more yet. I just use the crutch

What brand extention did u get? The exceed 2 inch weighs 1 oz if I remember right. Also u can fit their extentions on to the end of it I believe it's threaded quick release

You mean drill holes in it like racers do to certain things on a car for weight reduction?

I'd say it's not so much the weight he's having issue with ...it's the balance change. Imo. Maybe try a heavier shaft. Or get the exceed xring ( I think they are around a half oz) another option is mid cue extention

What I meant was to bore the extension to reduce its weight. Depending on the material, it may help with the balance issue.

I'm pretty sure that most are already hollow.
The Exceed is thin walled alum and I believe it's filled with some kind of foam. Not solid. I'm guessing tho. If it's solid aluminum I'm impressed that it's only an oz

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes I’m hesitant to ask questions, but always get such helpful responses. I think plugging the hole with something would make me feel better. I’ll pick up some different bolts and experiment. I have 4” & 8” cf extensions now. They do work well, especially considering the price. I’m pretty set on leaving one on the cue . The 2” might be just right, especially if it still fit in the case. Probably pony up for the Exceed version. Thanks again guys!

I just tried a 30” Kielwood shaft. It’s made by Sawdust cues. It even has matching rings. It hits very nice, nothing negative to say about it. BUT There is just something about the Mezz shafts…RDeca might have the perfect combo figured out. The mid cue extension, seems like a real good option too. Wavy1 pin may be harder to find. I’m sure someone here on AZ, would make one.

I don’t see any reason why you can’t completely remove the weight bolt, but Mezz offers from weight bolts as light as 1/4 ounces.

You can and i have. has no structural part in the cue. my cue weighs 17 with no bolt and 20 with a 3" Rick Roper cf ext. Love it.
There are lighter extensions out there. The Mezz/Exceed 2 inch extension is 1 ounce, the 4 inch extension is 2 ounces and their 8 inch extension is only 2 1/2 ounces.

Taking out the weight bolt will not damage the cue.

A few things will happen since you are removing the bolt and using an extension. Obviously the weight will change, but also the balance point will change. You will need to experiment and see what feels right for you.
