Same guy and same auction. I'm getting 4 blanks myself.

I've got 2 of the white Micarta ferrules (without the Asbestos). They are turned and ready to install.

I wonder if they are the same in all the ways except color? Has anyone used the newer Micarta material?

I'm pretty sure it's the same as today's material. If there isn't asbestos than it isn't worth too much. I think it's good material, just not 75 dollars a ferrule worth.

I paid $25 a blank for the old Micarta. I don't know what the cost will be to have someone turn them into ferrules for me.

What size is the blank? and is it yellow or white?

He said he was cutting the blanks 3/4 square X 1+ tall, but he would have cut other sizes if requested.

There are some Ivory squares in one picture.

At one time Westinghouse was one of the largest manufacturers of phenolics in the world. Phenolics are used in the electronics industry for insulation, boards and many other uses. Phenolics are a phenolic resin applied to different bases ( paper, linen, canvas, wood etc.etc.) under high pressure and heat. Micarta is Westinghouses trade name for phonelics. They probably made 25 different types of phenolics and they are all known as Micarta. Yellow Micarta is what is of interest to many cuemakers. None has been made in over thirty years but there are some conterfeits out there that look similer but are not the same. Buyer be ware. 25.00 sounds extremely low priced to me. I know one cue maker who sells .625X.625X1" cubes for 100.00 each and has sold a number of them. I told him I thought that was way to high as ivory is not nearly that high and he responded that you can buy ivory but there is no more yellow Micarta and further, there never will be. He has a point.

In the ad he said he got a block of it many years ago from a knife maker.

Just got my blanks. Not bad for $25 a piece.
