The Midwest Billiard Expo/Open blew threw Chicago this past weekend. With over 110 vendor booths and an estimated 6000 players, exhibitors and spectators visited the inaugural Midwest Show.
Both Open events were sold out at 256 players the woman's 8 ball reached a whopping 101 players while the 9 ball fell short at around 60.
The hotel was completely sold out and over booked. There are other hotels in the area which I now have a compiled list of.
We had many boys and girls ranging in ages. Our son Josh had a group of buddies that he hung around with. I had a sky box open just for the boys to play in. Needless to say they didn't stay much in it with the Ashton Twins floating around, you could find the boys in a minute.
Happy hour was daily in the Anhauser-Busch booth. Get this, the hotel sold out of all things AmberBock! I heard really good things about the taste. So to all those who like beer, just try one.
Earl was slammed with private lessons and spent the most part of his day in his booth, signing autographs and playing challenge the champ.
The exhibitors ranged from the most high end cue stick to the innergizer, (a massage machine). Some vendors did really good and others did not. Personally, I thought that everyone had good merchandise, and I am not just saying it because I ran the event. It all depends on what you are looking for at the time. For some of those vendors who didn't fair as good as they would have liked, it is quite possible that someone who saw their items will contact them in the future months. Christmas is coming, ya know...
Grady and Randy Mathews were there. Grady sold out of his book. Robert Byrne was also in attendance with his new boo "Byrne's Complete Book of Pool Shots." You could find him in the Schuler booth signing autographs.
Mike Massey, Robin Dodson and Steve Lillis performed daily as "The Rack Team." They drew quite the crowd.
The resort fell short in a few places. The main control panel in the Mega Center blew out which lead to a very smokey hot room for a while. They were not able to fix it but elected to turn on the fans which blew out the smoke and warm air and then we had the problem of it being to cold. Needles to say, the event ran hot and cold...
Well, I am going to relax for a few days and then start slamming the boards with the Windy City Open tournament this Jan 8~ 11, 2004. Over $40,000.00 in cash pay outs! Money added. All of the info is at

It was a huge success!
