mika shoots a .949

Mika is one of my favorite players, but at this level, anyone can win. The player that makes the least mistakes is usually the player that wins. Last night at one of my pool halls we had a 9 ball match, race to seven for P1,100. In US dollars that's about $30.00. Both players are in the eighth grade are are capable of running out from the break. Both play very well. The first match was played on my Gold Crown table which has pockets that are about 2.75" wide. Next week I plan on opening up these pockets to 4.5" when I have the cloth replaced at my other pool hall. My player won 7 to 2. The next match was played on a tournament table with 4.5" pockets. It was a race to 8. My player won 8 to 6 but made four mistakes that cost him three games. The first two mistakes was shooting to hard at a 6 and 7 ball in two different games and having the balls come back out of the pocket. Both games were an easy run out and he should have ran out and won both games. The next mistake was getting pocket hooked on the 6 ball. He missed position by about 1/8" on an easy run out. He was forced to play a 6 ball 9 ball combo that he missed. The last mistake was the last shot of the match. He shot the 8 ball to hard and ended up about 5.5 feet away from the 9 ball and on the rail. Easy shot to miss but he made it. I watched Dennis Orcollo play in a 9 ball match he easily won about two months ago. Every shot he shot he shot just above pocket speed and got perfect position on his next shot. He's the number two player in the world right now. My rules for myself when I played 9 ball years ago were to almost never shoot above medium speed and my position on the ball before the 9 ball was perfect so I could place the cue ball 2' to 3' from the 9 ball with an almost straight in shot that would be very hard to miss and I always shot the 9 ball just above pocket speed. No chance of the 9 ball coming back out of the pocket. I hope my young player will play by these rules. He could be a great player. Soon he'll start playing in 9 ball tournaments in Cebu City with A and B players. Shoot well my friends.
