mike capone ivory joint question

i was wondering if there is a noticable differance in hit when a cue has a flat faced ivory joint, and the ivory is just a sleeve around linnen
phenolic, and wood? this is how mike capone makes his ivory joints. im trying to decide if i want an ivory joint or linnen phenolic joint............Has anyone hit with them both? wich do you prefer?

I don't know if there is a difference, but I really like the feel of Mike's joint.
I have two, and counting. :D

My Capone has a sleeved ivory joint. I love the way it plays. It dosent "plink" like alot of the ivory jointed cues I have played with.

my opinion

Ive had several solid capped ivory joints and only 1 sleeved and I think the solid capped has a softer hit than the sleeved. I dont think the sleeved affects the feel, I think it acts more like a collar than anything. But then again Im no expert.

Thanks for the feedback. I placed an order for a capone cue and should have it sometime this july. Im really excited abot this cue. Even if the sleeved ivory joint does not have a differance in feel it sure does look awsome on his cues.

You wont feel it.

I have cues that have a full ivory cap and some with a sleeve, and i dont feel any difference.

I have hit with both. I had an ivory joint on my Schuler which I loved, it was the sleeve type. It was a bit on the stiff side but not overly loud.

Ernie also uses sleeve and the hit is just beautiful, especially with his over 4 oz shaft. It originally had a 3.5oz shaft with an ebony forearm, I then tried it with a 4.2oz shaft and it was out of this world.

I have hit with radial pin with a capped ivory joint, and I am not sure the difference I noticed was not because of the cap but because of the radial pin.

I would imagine with radial pin, the sleeve type might be a bit softer compared to the capped type, but honestly, I think it is more of the overall construction than anything.

You stated it as well, if not better, than most experts can.:)

I have 1 Capone with a phenolic flat faced joint, I like the way it plays. In Aug. I get my Ivory sleeved joint Capone, and can't wait to shoot with it.

there's a big difference in hit.

from the simple standpoint of "feedback", in a collared ivory, the core of wood exposed in the nose transfers the feel of the hit to your grip hand.

now,,,this would be less noticable if you had a very hard, dense wood like ebony in the nose as opposed to maple, which make the feel obvious. i have a collared ivory, and the hit feels almost like a billiard cue/wood screw.

you wont feel it

i think with the ivory just being a sleeve that you will not feel any differance between the two. i have owned many cues with ivory joints........................and the ones with the sleeved ivory joints i cant tell the feel the differance in hit..............
