Milk dud tips from pooldawg8

Just had to give a shout out to Jeff for these tips. Was able to get Mike Webb to install them for me yesterday and played last night with them. All I can say is, I have finally found the tip I have been looking. No break in required, these played exactly how I was hoping from the first shot.

Jeff, many thanks and you have a customer for life my friend.

Koop

Jeff makes nice tips, I've played them for years. Currently using one of searings tips, but when I change it out going back to the milk duds.

Searing is the tip I had Mike chop off for this one. I couldn't stand the Searing tip. It was a S and played like a super hard.

There’s some news on the Searing tip front. I’ve heard that Dennis is going to start making the tips himself, as he wasn’t happy with the inconsistencies with which the tips were being produced. I personally didn’t care for these earlier tips. If Dennis makes them himself, I’ll try them out again.

I didn't hear he was making them but I did hear he wasn't happy also. I probably won't try them only because I love the milk duds but I would have to assume they would be better quality if he makes them himself.

I played wit Kamui Soft for years and these tips give Kamui the 7.

I play with a Kamui soft and feel this is a bold statement, but I am also open minded.

What tip was the milkdud made from? With it being 1 piece instead of layered, does it mushroom at all? What criteria are you basing your opinion on? How is the longevity of the tip?

I'm asking because I genuinely want to know as I think the Kamui Black soft is the perfect tip for me and if someone says they found something better I would like to try it. Other milkduds I have tried in the past from other tip makers were not as good as the Kamui Black Soft in my opinion (for me at least).

Thanks in advanced.

What's up buddy?
I have a feeling there won't be much mushrooming with this tip. I have never played with the Kamui but Mike Webb said it's his personal favorite. You probably can't go wrong with either.

Hey Koop. Thanks for the info. I trust your judgement :D

I've been playing Jeff's duds for several years now. They are my clear favorite tip ever. I find them to be med/hard but very forgiving. They grip well, but I would not say it is impossible to miscue with them. With poor technique miscues are quite easy to come by with these tips, as with any other.

Ease of maintenance, consistency and longevity are the strongest suites of these tips. The last one I took off after a year just to see if their was a difference in a new one, there wasn't, it felt exactly the same. This was twice weekly play all year long, maybe five or six hours a week of actual play. That's pretty damn good in my book. I have had a Kamui last that long but it was also a flat tire when I finally pulled it off, and it went through the normal cycles of hardness and adjustment. These tips will play pretty much the same throughout their lifespan. If your the type that shapes your tip once or twice and then leaves them alone, these tips may last you a couple of years! The only reason I have to change them is I now shape them regularly and eventually they are too short, at three dollars I'm not really concerned about saving money here. With forty dollar tips I feel compelled to get every last shot out of them, for better or worse.

I strongly recommend these tips to everyone!

Here's his thread, he will constantly update the quantity he has on the first post:

Just send him a PM on here.

PS: They are one of the best "Milk Duds" I've tried.

Do these tips grip as well as a Kamui Super Soft as that is what I am after, a tip with major grip on the cue ball. I am in search of the grippiest tip and I will buy any brand at most any price to get what I am after.

Thanks

Kevin
Send pooldawg8 a message and ask him!! For my 2¢, yes they do.

If you found your perfect tip, why change??

If you found your perfect tip, why change??

Because there could be a perfect-er tip.

That post was 8 years ago.

Since that post I have moved on from Kamui to Precision Medium and shot with them for about 7-ish years and just a couple weeks ago I tried the Ko Medium and love that one as well.

One of my main reasons for switching is to have a stable of tips I like the feel of and trust. I usually buy a few back up tips and keep them in my case in case my normal cue repair guys dont have any in stock. I also worry a bit about a company changing their tip, or gong out of business and that tip not being available anymore.

Tip changes cause me a ton of anxiety. I play a lot and want my cue to hit, feel, sound a certain way. I'm just trying to do everything in my power to mitigate that anxiety and have a consistent playing cue.

How does the Ko tip sound/feel?The layered tips I used don't produce the ''ping'' sound I'm after...

Sound and feel is "correct" to me.

My initial reason for switching to the Ko Medium from the Precision Medium was what I'm chalking up to a bad tip or a bad install. The last one I had put on had a loose sound to it. Like a tink type sound. That was completely different from the previous Precision Mediums I was using for the past 7 years. Oddly enough, I had it put on by a cue smith that did my previous one and that one had no issues.

With that sounds came some inconsistency in the playability of the tip. Whether it was due to the tip itself or from my own mental issues with the sound and loose feeling of it.

Poking and pulling at it, it looked to be on there pretty good so I'm more leaning to just getting a bad tip. No gaps between the top and the pad it was glued to. Couldn't see it "lifting" at all when pulling at it. Maybe there was a loose layer or something in the middle of the tip.

I tried the Ko Medium because a buddy of mine had it on is Pres Revo 12.4. I use a Mezz Ignite 12.2 and that was about as close I was going to get for a sample hit unless I just had it installed. I liked the feeling of it.

Oddly enough, as soon as the cue smith (a different and also trusted one) handed me my shaft with the new Ko on it, I took a few swipes of chalk on it and could immediately tell it was better before even hitting a ball Then hitting with it confirmed that. Solid hit. True to Medium. No tink or loose sound/feel.

I ordered 2 Ko tips online because I don't like gambling if the cue guy will have them in stock so I have them when I need them.

I was able to sleep again that night.
