Hello,I am trying to cut some pockets out of birdseye and curly maple and I have noticed the edges of the points are tearing and making the inlays look rough. Is there something that you can do to avoid this?Possibly by apoxying the maple first to hold the edge?Any replies would be great.

Thanks

Are you talking about the edges of the pieces of the pockets? You said you are cutting pockets out of maple, but you cut pockets into maple. You cut pieces out of maple, so I'm not sure what you mean.

I am cutting pockets for flat bottom inlays and points with a Bludworth cnc into the maple forearm. And the top edge is sort of tearing and making the inlays look jagged

Thanks

That is fairly common. Sometimes a seal coat of Super Glue will stop it. I usually don't worry about it, as you can wipe your finger around the ledge when done and it breaks all the strings off. If your cue is a little oversized any jagged edge will disappear during the final taper pass.

Do a slow cleanup pass when you're done. I never have any jagged edges when I'm done, but I always leave .001-.002 that I clean up at a slow speed. I also never cut pockets that long or use bits as large as you're probably using.

Like Chris said though, you should be able to just run your finger around the edge and whitewater's left will come off.
