Is there a minimum cue length required for a regular cue? I know a jump cue has to be 40 inches...but what about a regular cue?

Thanks

BCA min. cue length is 40 inches. Thats why a jump cue is 40+ inches. It doesnt matter what kind of cue it is.

If I remember

I have read a rule where break cues have to be 56" in length, but can not
remember where.

As far as regular playing cues, there are kids playing with 48" and 52" cues till they grow more.

I believe 63" is the longest cue allowed.

I thought I herd them say on TV that IPT min. cue length is 56 inches.

Maybe that is just a generality-would be a silly rule- I know at least one pro (non IPT) who uses a smaller cue.

NUFF SAID.... 40 Inches is 40 inches for all Q''''s:)

Hey Sleuth, I believe IPT has no jump cue, there might be a different rule for minimum lenght. Anybody know?

Per the World Pool-Billiard Association rules, which I believe are also used by the BCA, the minimum cue lenth is 40 inches and there is no maximum.
See below from the WPA web site.

17. Cue Sticks
Cue Sticks used at WPA competitions should comply with the following
during play at table:

Length of Cue: 40 inches [1.016 m] minimum / No Maximum
Weight of Cue: No minimum / 25 oz. [708.75 gm] maximum
Width of Tip: No minimum / 14mm maximum

The cue tip may not be of a material that can scratch or damage the addressed ball. The cue tip on any stick must be composed of a piece of specially processed leather or other fibrous or pliable material that extends the natural line of the shaft end of the cue and contacts the cue ball when the shot is executed..

The ferrule of the cue stick, if of a metal material, may not be more than 1 inch [2.54 cm] in length.

I believe those ferrules are exactly one inch :D .

EDIT:
Here are the IPT spec requirements:

2.0 Cue Stick Specifications
All cue sticks must meet the following specifications:

a. No shorter than 53" and no longer than 63"
b. No lighter than 15 ounces and no heavier than 25 ounces.
c. Balance point at least 33" from the tip of the cue.
d. Leather cue tip.

Referees or IPT officials may inspect any cue at any time. If a cue that does not meet specifications is found being used by a player it will result in an immediate loss of a game or more depending on the magnitude of the offense.

cue length

I just was in a conversation with some fellows this week end in Olatha about this. One guy told me the IPT minimum was 57, but maybe he was wrong maybe it was 56. But they do have a minimum. Butterflycues

IPT rules are cue no shorter than 53" and no longer than 63" and no lighter than 15oz and no heavier than 25 oz. Also must have a leather tip in IPT.

IPT is different from BCA and other rules.

If you go to the IPT website, all the rules are there.
