Mini Pool League for 8 Players?

We have a small group of fellas who wish to play pool amongst ourselves on a Thursday night. Is there a good format for playing either individually, or amongst four 2-man teams. Maybe a little 8-ball and a little 9-ball...

Is it possible to handicap the teams if we have a skilled team against a novice team?

Thx in advance!

A local place does occasional Sunday night tournaments and it varies based upon how many show up each time. Sometimes we draw partners for alternating shot doubles, sometimes is regular double elimination 8-ball (race to 2), sometimes we play 3-ball, sometimes a little of each if they go fast. We are all close enough in handicap that we don't handicap unless an APA 3 or lower joins, then you need to win 3 to their two in 8-ball.

Best to see if your guys want consistency each week or mixing it up.

No one will have an APA rating but we all play in a summer golf league, and I suspect that some of us will be better than others.

It seems that some version of straight pool might be easier to handicap... play to 25 and poor players get a bump (handicap) in ball count at the end. I dunno how to fairly calculate the handicap. Then again, 7 or 9 ball would be a crapshoot; I could easily see a fella losing the game after pocketing 1-8.

Rules would need to cover what to do when one doesn't show due to business and 7 players remain.

I just don't want to reinvent the wheel...
