mini split for garage pool table

They work very well. Make sure the walls and ceiling are properly insulated
Great point. I need to check on that. A builder friend of mine mentioned that most garages lack insulation in the walls. We are having new, high-end, insulated garage doors installed in May. Also just had spray foam insulation put in the attic and knee walls above the garage.

With all the added insulation, I wonder if the mini-split would still be necessary. ??

Anyone one out there have a garage set up without HVAC? I live in North Georgia.

it's still going to get very hot and cold in their

Hey AZ Forum,
Looking for anyone who has their table in the garage and also uses a mini split for the HVAC. How effective are those type units and heating and cooling the space? My garage is basically 20x20.
A buddy and I installed a Mr. Cool 12K BTU mini split in my garage and it works great. It took about 2 hours to install.

If the east, west and north facing walls (at minimum) aren't insulated, don't waste the expense on a unit as the results won't be very desirable.

I'll ask this: If all the walls in your house were insulated, do you really need A/C and Heat?

I'm sure there are and they will probably tell you they sweat their asses off playing in the garage, especially in the South.

well noted. thanks for adding perspective.

Might not hurt to see if any exterior walls on the garage are insulated. Not alot of garages are built with hvac in mind. Along with a good modern garage door.
The garage overhead door is going to be your biggest loss of condidtioned air. The unit would probably be able to keep up with this loss, but the cycle time would shorten and cause the unit to run double time thus shortening the life of the unit. If the walls are not insulated, it is not to bad of a process to have insulation blown into each cavity between the joists. The ceiling is also easily blown as a diy job from equipment rented from the big box hardware stores.

Mr Cool or Mitsubishi, nothing else for a mini split in our hot n humid region. Can probably get it sized right and still run it on 120v, but the 240v versions are slightly better imo. Sized right is key too, not too big and not too small. They all have charts and break downs for room sizes of sqft.

I think he mentioned getting an insulated door, which will help. It depends which direction the door is facing.

My garage doors (barn style) are west facing so they get afternoon sun. I installed 1" rigid foam insulation which helps but it is definitely the weak link in my cooling. On a 100° day here in SoCal, my 12K BTU Mr Cool system keeps my detached garage 72°-75°. Heating isn't really a concern here in SoCal.

You can see the insulation in this pic. I covered it in peel and stick wall paper to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

I got my table in the garage… it’s only been set up since last fall though. I got through the winter with a space heater. Im not sure how hot it’ll be in there this summer. I live in Charlotte NC.
