Does anyone have any clue about any of the mini tournaments? I know Mike Janis used to host a mini 9 ball tournament. I would like to know what kind of tournaments are going to be held and when. I am plying in the 9ball tournament so I will be there the 18th thru the 22nd.
Thanks
Jason

Jason,
I was wondering the same thing. I know there will be plenty of tourneys upstairs in the bar box room. Last year there were the midnight minis in the main room. I emailed the addy listed on the page, but i never got a response.Hopefully there will be some spots available when i get there Sunday. I usually play in the One pocket mini. What other Cincy players are coming? I always see Zach from Cincy there. Do you know if he is coming up?

I know of the following players that will be there from cincinnati and surrounding area:
Justin Renner, Bobby Renner, Greg Randall, Whitey Stevens, Tommy Stevens, Eric Durbin, Mike Brown, Shannon Murphy, Bucky Bell, John Brumback, Steven "cupcake" Dillon, Jason Miller, Joe Brown... and im sure there is a ton that I forgot or dont know personaly.
I'm trying to think of Zach???Is he from N.Kentucky? Do you know his last name?

Is that Zak Tran?

Mini-Tournaments

From the DCC web site. www.derbycityclassic.com

You can signup for the nightly tournaments during the day at the main office of the pool tournament. The entry fee use to be $20

Older players and fans remember the sense of fun and activity that permeated the old Johnston City tournament. The Derby City Classic established a new tradition based upon the best of the past, and recreated that atmosphere of fun, challenge and enjoyment, but added its own special twist. In addition to the ongoing contests in 9-Ball, One Pocket and 9-Ball Bank, there are:

Nightly Mini-Tournaments - Approximately 7 evenings of the nine-day extravaganza see an additional mini-tournament in 9-Ball, One Pocket or 9-Ball Bank. Using added money from outside sponsors and small entry fees, 32 - 64 players have an added opportunity to win prize money and enjoy practicing old skills or refining new ones. Since every mini-tournament in the first Classic has a full field, its obvious the players make the most of these added opportunities.

Nightly $1,000 Added Mini-Tournaments

During each evening of the nine day Tournament, players will be offered a low entry mini-tournament alternating in 9-Ball, One-Pocket or 9-Ball Bank. The field will be between 32-64 with the entire $1,000 added purse awarded to the players. Each mini-tournament will be scheduled in the Official Program, listing the specific sponsor for that evening's play. For more information on Mini-tournaments, Contact Mike Hood via EMAIL.

The mini tournaments are the best bang for your buck (IMO). Every single player in attendance enjoys going to that upstairs room and staying in stroke.

They would fill up very quickly, and the entry fees ranged from $25 to $100, depending on the mood of the players. The tournament director wasn't Mike Janis, though. I can't remember his name. He is a tall man, and he was very accommodating to the players. Everybody loves those mini tournaments. Some of them were short races to 5, and everybody has a chance to win.

Between the mini tournaments, main tournaments, the action, and the vendor booths, there is truly NEVER a dull moment.

Mike Janis and Viking cue does not have anything to do with the DCC.

If your thinking of Zak the Oriental guy I saw him last night and he said he was going to play in some minis but he wasn't in stroke enough to play in the main event.

Nice guy and excellent player.

Do you get to attend the main events free of charge if you enter one of the minis? All the sweating will be heavy on my pockets.
