Minneapolis/St. Paul...

Curious if anyone is from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area?

What's the billiard scene like there? Are there a lot of pool rooms, tournaments, tours, leagues, players?

What's the best room to play in? What's the biggest room (# tables)?

Thanks,
Zim

Though it's a little spread out, Minneapolis is a good pool town. There are a fair number of solid players and some good weekly tournaments.

Though there are other good rooms, the two best rooms, imo, are Two Stooges outside the beltway on the north side (Fridley) and Shooters, outside the beltway on the south side (Burnsville).

Shooters is huge. 64 tables--lots of them 9' gold crowns. food, beer & wine, lots of events, friendly, knowledgeable staff, friendly players, always action available -- 9-ball, one pocket...

Two stooges has about 50 (?) tables, a mix of 9' Gabriels and diamond bar boxes. Really nice large raised full service bar area in the middle, good food, nice people, very nicely designed.

Ive been to perhaps 70 poolrooms in 25 states in the last decade, and these two rooms just might be at the top of my list....

Overall, the pool scene is pretty good, most of which revolves around leagues. M-8 is the local league and it has around 5,000 players! The state tourney is this weekend and first place for open team is over $10,000! A lot of nice rooms in the area too. My only complaint would be more action, but there is still some from time to time.

Been to Shooters, very nice place, lots a tables.

Only problem was that I matched up with this punk kid named "the sleeve" and lost my ass........:D

Russ.......

Metro Area

nobody mention's Jimmy's Pro billiards, come one come all (play the ex-champ,) for cash. He works wed-sat 6-close. he's beatable nobody challenges him, there's Lee Huewagon too -IPT player as well. Brian Brekke , Bo , Demi J. rob, deric. all gamble. In minnesota 99 percent don't gamble. But like Ross said there are 5,000 + Tournement players. Two Stooges, CR billiards, biffs, shooters billiards,q-sharks great place for league players. Shane comes through often. spots them all, if they want to play. Everything is going to 7-ft diamonds for the leagues, in my opinion crap, give all another drink ticket.Because they haven't got a clue, as to what the cue is for- mark

Bo is a great player.....and acts with class.

Tell my buddy Richie Cunningham that everyone in STL says hello & hope to see him in Vegas next month. Richie won the BCA Master's singles title 3 years ago. He can play 8 ball on a bar table.

Isn't Ty Wilson & Tony Z also from the area - I get the players & states confused sometimes.

You are right-Ty and Tony are both from Minnesota. I don't know what Bo Mark was referring to, but I do know that Beau plays good.

If you are coming to MN for action dont go anywhere else except for Shooter's. I live on the North side of the cities within 10 miles of 5 different pool halls and you will not find action there unless you want to play Jimmy at his own place. You will find action at Shooter's and they will help you find the action that you are looking for.

If you are just looking to shoot then do not miss out on 2 Stooges in Fridley. By far the most upscale joint in the state. Good equipment, good food, but most important is that the waitress are for the most part not too hard on the eyes.

I prefer Jimmy's.........

I don't mind donating a bit to support road players, and I prefer Jimmy's. It is by far the best equipment in town, with shimmed 9 foot diamonds.

If anyone will be in the area looking for friendly action (say the word dime and I'm out) please pm me. I always enjoy playing good players.

Re-Cap...
Shooter's in Burnsville
Q-Sharks in Burnsville
Two Stooges in Fridley
Jimmy's Pro Billiards in Columbia Heights
CR Billiards in Coon Rapids
Biffs in Spring Lake Park

Missing places?
Which places have at least 8 of the same size tables, food, liquor/beer?

I'm thinking about starting a division of the Zim's Rack Amateur Pool Tour in this area and wanted some input on rooms.
It sounds like there's plenty of players of various levels of skill. Our tour is basically for anyone below a BCA Masters level, strictly Amateurs!

We have tours in St. Louis, Paducah starting in October 2008 (2009 season) and possibly Springfield, IL, KC, Detroit, Ohio, and hopefully Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Thanks for your inputs,
Zim

Looks like you got most of the rooms covered.

I know Biff's and CR's do not have any 9-footers, and no liquor at Jimmy's.

Is this mostly 8-ball? There is already a pretty heavy amateur 8-ball league presence in the Twin Cities, so I guess it depends where you are going and what is different about it.

We are not a league, we are an Amateur 8-Ball Tour. We have multiple "regional" tours with a Final Tour Championship at the end that players must qualify for. Do a search for Zim's Rack APT and your find more info in multiple threads.

Thanks,
Zim

Shooters is real nice. The four tables in the middle/roped off area play real tight. Decent food, drink specials. We were there last summer and got action each night. Nothing huge, but good action with great guys.

A few that are missing:

Al's Billiards - Roseville, MN

Corner Pocket - Spring Lake Park, MN

Fat Boy Billiards - NE Minneapolis

Whiskey Rack - North St Paul

S.S. Billiards - Hopkins, MN

We use to have a few more, but they seem to be dropping like flies.

If you are looking to bring a tour up this way: Shooters, Biffs, Two Stooges, or Q-Sharks are the only locations that will actually be able to provide what you are looking for.
