After making the previous shot, sometimes I find myself in the following position (shooting white). Shooting with a bridge from this is not very effective for me. Suggestions?

I think I would attempt to shoot the CB to the top long cushion, right short cushion, yellow ball, short, long then score on red.

Just a thought, looks like it lays perfect.

would this be a reasonable option??

depending of the exact position of the OB1 , a simple one rail kick shot with follow on the yellow/ob1 can work ( 2 rails kick if it's more near the small rail ) ...

not an easy shot anyway .

I tried both ways. Very low percentage shot imho. I couldn't get white to come back up high enough to point red. When hit thin, it came shallow. Was wondering if there was something off of red first.

I was thinking the something similar with double the rail in the corner, but I dont think it would be easy to hit red on the proper side. I'll try that next time I get to the table.

As with my other post, I was hoping for a plausible solution off of red first (w/o use of a bridge).

im a system guy and its late so im not sure how to calculate this shot ( some one pm me please) but i think its doable with someone with enough knowledge and skill

Play your cue ball into the upper left corner: a plus two shot to the red and to the score.

if you mean the upper left corner as we see the diagram going short rail(opposite fron where the balls are) /top long rail to red ball /rail yellow ball
ie an umbrella shot as i learned just days ago....
i dont see how you can come to the red at an angle that will carom into the rail (either side) and rebound to hit the yellow
.....

I think he means this:

This is actually the shot I tried, since I didn't want to use the bridge. If I missed thin, the spin pulled the ball away from the point. Was very difficult to hit red properly. I was hoping someone would come up with something off or red first from the left side if possible. If white were further up table there are other shots available, but with it so close to read and just above it, it makes the position difficult ...at least to me.

some solutions

Here are 6 possible solutions. I understand that you might not be able to play off the red very well, but they are still possible.

and 3 more:

thank you for showing several possibilities
i still dont see how in the first example the cue ball rebounding off the lower long rail into the red can get to the yellow ball but ill take your word on it
examples 2 and 6 would need the bridge
dont think i could be precise enough
examples 3 and 5 are in my skill set
the tikki would move the the yellow out of the way (in example #3)
i like it and not being experience in billiards would never have thought of it
again thanks for taking the time to show solution

my shots in posts 2 and 6 do they have any chance at all??
please critique
im a big boy
its education not personal....:)

The whole idea behind hitting the short cushion first is that coming off the third cushion the cue ball has right hand English on it. The yellow is then very big.

The shot in post # 2 is possible, but it is highly difficult. I would never try it unless there was absolutely nothing else.

Post # 6 is a different version of the same shot, and it is even more complicated!

I would bet you would make about 1 out of every 10 or 20 attempts. Not good odds.

Mark is right.

The right English on your cue ball is what seals the deal on that shot. Can it still miss? Of course. For an even higher percentage shot, use some speed.
