Mississippi proper is a very rural state and young folks flee their small towns for Memphis, Jackson, and to a lesser degree, the Coast. I have not been north in a few years, New Orleans and Mobile are too convenient for me. My pool sense tells me something has to be going on. I will tell you what I know. If you find some hidden gems, please let me know. Southern Billiards in Starkville is an old standby. If the Gilmer family still runs it, and you are near it, you are in luck -- real pool ethic in a small town room (everything I would ever want). For many years, Sports Center, in Grenada, held a New Years Day Tournament that was a really good event -- an old home day if ever there was one. There was a recent AZB post about tournament action in Meridian (Big Tyme Billiards?) which seems very promising. Of course, there is always Mississippi's biggest city -- Memphis -- but I will let someone from up there tell us what's up there. Jackson has the Green Room and Reed Pierce's place, but I can't give current info on them.
I lived in Oxford in the late '70s and the best small town pool hall I ever saw, Purvis's, was a great place. Back then, many small towns in North Mississippi had similar establishments. Even though times change, I sure hope some of them still exist. We barely have pool halls here on the Gulf Coast.
