Mizerak Cues

Good evening all I’m curious as to what kind of custom Cues Steve Mizerak played with. There’s an Accu stats match on YouTube titled The pine needles senior 9ball tour from 1998. Steve is playing with a four point cue that has a linen wrap and no inlays with what appears to be a delrin butt cap or possibly the good stuff. I’m just curious I’m a cue fan. I’ve also seen matches with him playing with a cue with inlays and a steel joint on the accu stats matches.

He used Balabushka earlier in his career. By '98 he was most likely using a Richard Black. IIRC he may have also used a Mottey at one time also. He was using a Black from mid/late 80's onwards.

Isn't he the one that put Searing on the map?

Thanks for the info, he and Buddy had such a beautiful stroke, and they got so much action from the cue ball with those buttery smooth strokes.

Used to see him regular from the late 80s till his death. All he was using was Black cues.
I had to come back and edit this cuz I totally forgot about Dennis Searing. Yeah he did play with the a Searing and cue for a while.

he had one of the best looking strokes ever.

and of course his cue stick had nothing to do with it or how his cue ball traveled.

He designed and played with a Scruggs for a while. I owned one of those cue and it had a letter from Steve. Shooulda kept that.
I sure thought it looked like a Scruggs. He has a lot of matches on Accu-stats with that cue, then. Thanks for validating that.

He did use one at the very end of his playing. Just checked.
Yeah Dennis did make him a cue maybe more than one. We were having the Florida tour in those days and Miz used to play on like every stop. I played him a number of times won a few lost most. He really did love to play pool. Here he is the famous Steve Mizerak traveling to the other coast of Florida to play in an $800 first place tournament.

Dennis Searing by the way was a very good player back then, I don't know how he plays now. He got to know Miz and would even work on his cues making him some shafts. And ultimately making him a cue.

I never handled the cue that Dennis made for for Miz but I did play with his cue that was made by Richard black. He was just practicing and laid the cue down and said keep an eye on my cue I'll be back. Of course I'm going to pick it up and play a little bit with it.

I was totally shocked and how skinny the butt was. Here's this big guy with these massive hands and he's got this cue with this really thin butt. I just found it interesting.

I came back and did an edit on this if you read it before. Sometimes I think it's not so good to talk about people on here.

The story I heard was he critical of Searing's early work told him he needed to improve his quality (specifically, the evenness of his points).
Searing is critical of his own work lol and Steve wasn't wrong
