Who is Molina Mike and what's his story? I never heard of this dude until a few years ago and now he seems to be a major force in the pool world. He's involved in all the major match ups and he travels around to all of the pro tourneys. He seems like a good dude, I'm just curious...

On a side note, whatever happened to that big backer that was at the derby a few years ago with player contracts trying to sign players on to his "team". He was doing big things and then seemed to disappear.

How many years ago? There was one “big backer” who passed from cancer. He wanted to hire players and cultivate a group of players. He had the $ to do it & mostly knew his way around pool(he took a decade away from pool) so he was wise, just not current in his thinking. Personally I think that’s impossible.

Hmm, I can't recall the year exactly. It was probably 2017ish. I think it was the same year that Filler was getting a lot of notoriety. He came to Derby and surprisingly did really bad because he was gambling too much and was too tired for tourney play.

I know Dennis Orcullo and the Ko brothers were some of the players that were offered spots on the "team". I don't think Roy's Basement made his return to pool yet.

This guy was before that, maybe 2011 I’d guess. He had a couple players on his payroll-it wasn’t working. Employment & pool are like oil & water.

The John French era came to a crashing end....when he put on the phony Big Ko-Dennis Orcullo match. Turns out he was backing both....meanwhile Upstate Al sold the PPV....knowing the match was a hoax.

John French did some commentary during the fake match. He is the most annoying human being I've ever had the displeasure of listening to.
Upstate Al still owes his subscribers an apology...and a refund.

There was also a company named something like "Money Grab Promotions". I think they have since rebranded after some questionable antics from the original owner.

John French may be in the past, but the PPV money grab still alive and well in the pool world. :(

Michael Ortiz is Molina Mike. This spring he handled the transaction between myself and James Hanshew when I purchased a jump cue.

I've been following his posts on Facebook, and he shares a lot of pool-packed content from around the world. He should work for one of the billiard entities like Billiards Buzz or Billiards Digest.

The Booth Brothers series of videos is a hoot and sometimes feature Molina Mike. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, with hosts Joey Ryan and Mark White. Heres one: Episode 9 of Booth Brothers with Mika

He is also on a couple of Joey Ryan's podcasts. Seems like a good guy, I have interacted with him a few times on line. He runs a bunch of auctions on FB.
