Monarch cushions

My 50 year old crown 2 has original monarch cushions on it and was curious how many rails should I get on bounce back ? I’m a little over 3 too 3.5 . Wasn’t sure this normal or time to replace with something else . Artemis?

Very likely you've got some dead spots. First, are you certain your table is a Gold Crown II? There's lots of misinformation out there. It is more than likely a Gold Crown I as the GCII was only offered from '74-'76. Either way, the subrail bevel will need to be adjusted to accept modern K55 profile cushions to retain a true 2:1 ratio (50"x100") playing surface. Having had Artemis on a previous table, I'm not sure the extra cost is worth it. I went with Diamond Black cushions on my Gold Crown I and love the way they play.

100 percent gold crown 2 o/s .thats why told have go to Artemis because of length
i replaced my Monarch Superspeeds on my GCI with Artemis, had the subrails done too, if I didnt tighten up the pockets I would have kept the Monarchs on it, they were still good. If I were doing my table right now I think I would put Superspeeds on it, I don't believe there is any advantage to Artemis, its just what everyone was using when I did my table. Monkey see monkey do.

As some one who doesn't have a Gold Crown, but read many posts on here claiming that rails need to be modified to use cushions available now, I have to wonder. Isn't there any cushion available for the older Gold Crowns that the rails don't have to be modified? It's hard enough to get a table mechanic qualified enough to recover a table, let enough trust them to modify your rails.
Without easily available correct cushions for these old tables, it's just a matter of time before they fade away due to the scarcity of qualified installers.

No there is not and no they won't.

My guy didn’t say they were only ones that fit I may have misspoke . He has a new set of Artemis and said I could have them if I wanted to go that route or pay for superspeeds . Either way there is no current direct replacement for the monarchs

Say what? All cushions for a Pro 8' and a 9' table are 48" long. I think someone is telling you a story if they are saying Artemis are the only cushions that will fit.

Love to see a pic of your table! It's not often you see a true Gold Crown II.
