Money Sharing Agreements?

I can tell you from first hand knowledge, there is NO business going on in the hohmann/manalo finals this evening.

as to what bandido said, i agree. I have spoken with alot of players and it seems that dennis is not the only lone wolf out there. The philipinos for years have whacked up pots and even have fellow "team" members get a free pass into deeper tourney rounds. My understanding, is that alex is also a lone wolf. The efren/parica squads feel alex is an outsider who has all but abandoned his homeland, and that to this day they are nothing more than cordial. I think they feel this young whipersnapper has forgotten where he comes from and is way too arrogant for their tastes. Not enough respect kicked up to the elders kind of thing. and I also beilieve that alex doesnt really care what they think, so the feelings are very much mutual.

As i posted yesterday, their is a healthy history of matches played between thorsten and manalo. essentially thorsten has owned him with the exception of the 2 losses in the koth. Thorsten is the man to beat, and manalo knows it.

go thorsten!!!!

Very interesting comments about what other Filipino's think about Alex.
Didn't his folks move him out of the Phillipines at a very young age, at virtually no choice of his own?How is that abandoning his homeland.I heard earlier somewhere that he wanted to represent the Phillipines at some future events and has been back there to gamble with Orcollo and others. This is the first I've ever heard of any resentment.

I've heard in the past that Parica and Reyes don't like each other too much so it's kind of surprising they are in agreement regarding their thoughts on Alex. I've allways heard him mentioned as a very likeable guy, so this arrogant label is surprising.

I'm not saying what you've heard isn't true, I'm just saying that I'm surprised to hear about it.

i dont think there is any question alex is arrogant, he is also loud and loves people watching him put on a show where as the other filipinos are much more low key and quiet, but will play.

No question about it, Alex is a very charasmatic and entertaining performer and the crowd loves to watch him perform. There is a difference to being charasmatic and arrogant. The sport needs exciting players like Alex. When he won in Taiwan, even the Taiwanese fans loved and adopted him, even after he beat their local Pee Wee Chang.

When in Taiwan Alex hung out with the young kids and was looked upon highly. I think Alex is getting a little bit of a bad rap here.

north carolinian described the sentiment exactly. regardless, though, of the events surrounding alex's departure from there, his loyalties have always been more canadian than otherwise. i know for a fact that he fancies himself a canadian above all else. not saying at all that he doesnt consier himself philipno, but a canadian first

no one here, especially me, is giving alex a bad rap. I am friendly with alex and have found him to be a very cool guy. I am just stating my perceptions of how alex is received by many, many philipno players.

no judgement on my part at all.

I think that they misread Alex the same as the other CMs here misread me. And I think that it's because of what we've picked up from our second home, his is Canada and mine is the United States. There's some sort of a pecking order in same industry or field here and they sometimes mistake straightforwardness as arrogance. Plus Alex left, as did I, as virtually unknowns in our current line of work to suddenly return to change the whole set-up. Alex is considered as one of the transition guys and threat to the higher ups's organization's monopoly of the sport.

bandito, what do the filipinos race to, 5,11,21????? for your typical bet of 750 or 1k??? do they play ten ball or rotation for the money????

Efren's group isn't the voice of the many. Players here like Alex a lot. He is very friendly and helpful to all. The elders probably feel threatened. Sometimes it's hard to accept that the time has come when legitimate challenges come knocking specially in your own hometurf.

but eferen's group is THE voice of the many here in the states. And as it is, i only go by first hand info, so i have little else to base my opinions on as i have no direct experiences in the phillipines.

bandidoooooooooooooooooooo why you ignorin me, just kidding, also just trying to picture the philipino pool seen, do the top guys that are all being mentioned all play even or do they have to fight over weight like here in the states

Both. 10Ball has replaced 9-ball as the quick-get-it-over-with money
game of choice. They normally want to match-up as much as they can on any given night. For that stake, the race depends on the level of players or match-ups. Usually 11-21 depending on how deep the pockets are too.

and thats why he did everything in his power to be listed as filipino instead of canadian at the worlds last year?

They all play even. They only fight over what day to hold the rematch for the higher stake matches($3k+).

When Alex won the WPC he was representing Canada, but since then he started representing Philippines. He just thinks that the Filipinos appreciate his achievement more than the Canadians. If there is any division among the Filipinos it will also reflect among the local players in the Philippines. So far, I haven't noticed it.

By the way the set they play varies a lot. I see them play sometimes for just one set mostly against amatuers. If you are a GI visiting Subic Bay you can get a chance to play against Efren (and take your money, ;)).

I understood the circumstances from the get-go. No worries.
