Moori tips...who's using em?

And why?

I've been using med.layered leather tips for years.I currently have talisman on all of my shooting cues right now.I can usually get these for about 25 bucks installed. This last one cost 30 but no biggie.I had it put on a new cue I just bought because the "feel" of the one piece med.tip that was on it just wasn't what I am used to and the money was well spent as the difference was noticable and more familiar.

The thing is,two of my buddies were there at the PH (not my usual spot)
and were really talking up the Mooris they had put on thier respective cues.To hear them tell it these tips OUTSTANDINg and leaps and bounds above the other tip options.

Now these aren't guys you are gonna see on tv next week, but they are PH regulars with pretty decent games who are used to having and maintaining cues. They also had nothing to gain whichever I chose, though the moori was another ten spot.

I stuck with the talisman anyhow, but they got me wondering?
Figured I'd hunt down the opinions here before making my mind up come next time.

Love em?Hate em?Stick with one brand?
OMG are you talking US dollars here?!!

You guys are paying out the phucking nose for these tips to be installed.

I just bought a box of 12 Sniper tips for $84.95

12

Let's see, I am no Einstein, but 84.95/12 = like 7 bucks a piece.

Do your own work fellas!!

I paid Joe Blackburn $50 a piece to put 2 mooris on my playing cue back in 2001 at the US Open. Then I went out and purchased a lathe. I pay $10 for Moori and $10 for a Sniper. I purchased about 30 Talisman tips in 2004. I like them all. I honestly do not have a favorite. They are all great playing tips. They are kinda like cues. It takes a few strokes to get use to a cue. I have about 20 cues and I can play about the same speed with them all after a little warm up. It is absolutely about the archer and not so much the arrow. JMHO

Lathe will pay you back in a couple of re-tippings. Good idea.

$50 a piece, I read that and sharted a little bit!

Moori Slow

Used Talisman for years, had delam problems, switched to Moori Slow, love em.

Wow...I paid $20 for mine, installed.
It was done by a friend, but still...

Anyways, you don't need a lathe to install tips anyways. You can do a beautiful job without one. And if you have a predator, you won't melt your ferrule off!

I've gone back n forth with tips for the past couple of years. At first I was just using a Le-pro, and didnt have a problem with them, I then switched to a Triumph and loved them, because it was a bit softer. But I hated how both of them was hit or miss, when replacing them. I had some that if you scuffed them up, they wouldnt hold chalk.

I then went to a Moori Med, after hearing from several guys about how great they are. I used them for about two yrs, and after going threw a couple of them, and having issues with them glazing over all the time, even after i would scuff them up, the tip would glaze over after playing for a hour or two.

So then i went to Triangle tips and it played nice, but was the same with Le-pro and Triumph, first tip was soft, second one was rock hard.

I then went with a Tiger Dynamite tip and wow!!!!! It played nice, didnt glaze over and held chalk like glue. I scuffed up the tip 1 time, and havent touched it since then. This is whats on my BHQ cue.

On my Gilbert, i went with a Moori Med again because thats all that is carried in my area. And right now i havent had a problem with the tip glazing over. I had the tip trimmed up after a week of play so it would be broken in. And it still holds the shape and continues to hold chalk very well.

For the price you cant go wrong with the Tiger Dynamite tips, which i think are just as good as the Moori tips.

Platinum Billiards has the Dynamite tips at 5$ a tip, where as all the other name brand tips are generally double that per tip.
